Has anyone reduced the Length of pull on the Montana's. I called Kimber's Custom Shop and they said that they did not do any custom work on the rifles. They did say thet the recoil pads were glued and screwed. I would like to reduce the LOP on my wife's 7/08 by about and 1-1/4" and a 1/2" or so on my 325. I am not sure if the stock construction will allow for such. If anyone has experience/knowledge with this, please let me know.

I have shortened a few composit stocks, where there is a will, there is a way. I would take it to a pro, as a refinish is a possability for a hobbiest. Expect a delay as some head scratching seems likely. I bet Wild West could do it...Bill

Thanks, I will give WWG a call. I have had other work done there and was plesed. I was certainly disappointed that Kimber's Custom Shop did not work on rifles. I am also going to give Extreme Rifle Works, here in Palmer a call. I have not had any work done there but would sure like to find someone that does quality work very close to the house. Appreciate the reply.
Any idea who makes these stocks for Kimber ?

Called WWG and they said they could do. So, after the range session this weekend, the 7/08 will go to them and the 325 will go back to Kimber for an unrelated issue and then eventually to WWG. Not sure if the 325 will be complete prior to this moose season, really looked forward to the light weight. Now it appears I will have to decided 375 or 338.

The recoil pad is glued and recessed fit into the kevlar stock. So are the walnut stocks! I think that is a mistake - even if they have them made in Honduras!

I agree, I do not see any signs/evidence of it being screwed. I can find no evidence of slits for the screws. My have been the janitor that I was speaking too.

How the heck do I get this post / thread married up with one that I have on the Gunsmith section on the same topic. I srewed up and posted here first - then thought Gunsmithing was more appropriate - I have had some very good input from both forums, but would like to roll into one thread. - Anyway, I am stopping by WWG tomorrow - verbally they said they could do it - and of course they have ample experience with synthetics on their customs and others.

I asked Melvin Forbes, who had a hand in designing the stock, if he'd shorten one for me - he wouldn't. I contacted Kimber's Custom Shop, and they told me the same thing that they told you, that "they don't do that kind of work" (so why do they call themselves a Custom Shop, I wonder?). If you don't have any luck finding someone who will shorten a Montana stock close to home, you may want to contact Rick Bin, as he's stated that he's able to do it.

Thanks for the reply so for the delay in responding. I just got back in town a few days ago. Before I left, I drop the Kimber off at Wild West Guns. They said, they could/would do it. I asked them to save the drop-off. I want to see how the stock and recoil pad is actually attached. It is closing in on 3 weeks since I dropped it off. Hopefully, before I leave in a week and a half, I will be able to pick it up. This was my wife 7mm-08 and had reduced to 12.25". That puts the cut line pretty close to the rear sling stud. But, they said no problem. If this one goes well, I am going to have my 325's LOP reduced to around 13". Again thanks for the informative reply.

We just picked up the Kimber from Wild West Guns, and are very pleased!! The 12.25" LOP seems to fit her perfect.
