I'm thinking this could be a great all arounder. Can leave it in the truck, carry it to a deer stand, haul it out west, pop coyotes across a field.
So far the only .223 I have is a RAR Compact. Fun to shoot but stock and mag are crap.
What do y'all think?
If what ya got shoots...shoot it
My Montana 223 is the only rifle I have paid retail for in several years. It's likely the last rifle I would ever sell. Buy one.
I've been using one for a lot of years now as a farm gun. It lives in an ATV gun boot. It's lived a rough life and rarely is there a day that goes by where it isn't carried....though it's rarely shot.
The only reason not to get one would be to wait on Barrett to make a .223 Fieldcraft......
It won't kill unless it is an AI.
HA!
Due the light weight, they are likely hard to shoot and kick hard.
Hint.................

That was my biggest concern. My 6.5 seems to be fine.
Compared to what?
I only have (3).................
Compared to my other rifles. It's a baby. low recoil, low cost, low drama
Damn!
That sounds good...............
light rifles are hard to shoot. You'll probably have to practice.
I'd rather Google it.
Hint.
Laughing!................
Sounds expensive.
I'll need to look at your pictures and "live" vicariously.......................
Better grab one quick. Kimber dropped the 223 for 2019.
The Kimber Montana is King in the ergonomics game. They just feel right....
If only they made one in 22-250.....
And 1-14"................
B&C now makes a stock for the RAR. Can't help you with the mag.
Sweet!
Adding weight,makes a Montucky "great".

I figure a guy could find one if he looked hard enough. I could one from here that doesn't shoot.
Why would they drop them from the line?
If a guy can find the holy grail of Montana’s years after production a 223 will be easy for a long time.

What year would that be?
Believe RDW was referencing the 7 WSM
I only have (3) of 'em,in 7 Whizzum.....................(grin)

I picked one up off Gunbroker this last year.
Haven't loaded for it yet, though.

Kimber isn't known for brilliant rifle decisions, but I really don't know the reason.
They'll fhuqk up and go ValCry or sumptin'...or even 22 Nuzzler!...............(grin)

What a shame!
All they gotta do is spin up an 8 twist 223 barrel for the win unless Barrett beats 'em to it....

An 8 twist, on the less expensive Hunter model would sell like aspirin on New Year’s Day 🥃

A 7 rwist with a 2.5" mag box even moreso....

The 223 Montana was the best Montana. I would change the twist to 1 in 7 or 8, and lengthen the mag confines a bit, but it is as close to perfect as I've seen. It might be my favorite rifle.
Mine wears a hawk Hill 1-8 @21". Gets shot a lot, carried a lot. 62tsx, for killing and 55vmax for playing/predator-varmint hunting. It will never get sold.

What a shame!
That leaves the market wide open for Barrett! Please!!! I hope they are listening!
Got tired of waiting on Barrett so I did just pick up a Montana 223 last week. Hoping the 9 twist shoots the 62 ttsx? A Fieldcraft will be on order the second I hear they are shipping.
Agreed! If Barrett drops a "micro action" in .223, 6.5 Grendel, etc I will likely own a few more Barretts which can only be a good thing.

In the Grendel and I'm in.
The FC is already light, why re-tool for a Chipmunk when the existing platform works great?

They need excuses to not build a lefty.
I bought a KM .223 a number of years ago, since I enjoyed shooting my KM .308 so much.....much cheaper to reload for, and easier on the shoulder, but is the same platform. I have shot thousands of rounds through it, and it still easily shoots under an inch. Actually just bought a box of 50 Hornady 55 grain vmax for the brass and printed a group of three not much larger than 3/8". Shot coyote, fox, otter, ptarmigan, handful of caribou, etc.....
What can would you put on a 223 Montana?

The 22-250 and 204 was dropped also.
Only available in the various varmint or heavy barrel offerings. Very disappointing. No 6mm CM either.
Who makes a new model called the "Open Country" and only chambers it in 6.5 CM or 308? The name and configuration begs for the 243, 257R, 25-06, 270, 280AI, 7mmRM, 7WSM, 300WM, 300WSM, 6.5PRC etc.
Oh to be the Kimber manager of product development.
If we could use them for deer in VA I would have one. Wound up with a Montana in .260 instead. Spent a few dollars finding what bullets that one liked.

Va deer have thicker skin. IIRC .223 is legal in WV, MD, NC, TN, and KY....
More than a few folks are Moosing with Montucky 223's. Elks too.
Hint....................

Doubt I'll be Moosin' or chasing Elks with my Montucky .223, but what would those folks be using for a bullet?
In OEM spouts, the Hornie 75 BTHP shines in all atmospheres,as do the 62TSX(best .224" X-er going). In rebarreled 223/223AI Customs...the 75'Max/ELD are the mainstays, though the 88 ELD is coming along strong.
Same goes Bears.
