Seems awhile back there was a post showing a Marlin X7 bedded in a McMillan (?) fiberglass stock. Does anyone know if the X7 shares a action foot print with any other brand of rifle. I know the X7 uses the same scope bases as the Model 70 Winchester. Wondering if you have to start completely over or just requires minor modifications.

Well why do that? X7's come in a plastic injected molded stock with pillar bedding and shoot great. How will a expensive stock make it better? I've all ways thought the glory of XL &XS 7's is their low price for the performance you get. I have one in .308 blued , ss in 7-08 , and a 25-06 blued and less than $800 in all 3.. Just asking do what you want.MB

They were excellent rifles...if the people at Remington had a brain in their heads they would still be made.

With some cool factory options and Remington not using Remington qc they could have a real winner that kept them in the game against cheaper more modern competition

I have to agree with you on this. I have a blued .308 XS7, and had a SS .270 XL7 that I sold to a friend that did not appreciate it and traded it off. For the price point, they are great shooting rifles, Yeah, my XL7 was a little finicky when compared to the .308, but still a great shooting rifle. I got the XS7 for $250 new, and the XL7 for $200 from a guy that never took it out of the box. If I could find a deal on one in 7mm-08 or .25-06 Rem. I 'd probably buy it as well. Ergonomically speaking, I preferred the XL7 my RAR.

I have had two in .243 that are better shooters than most rifles. I have less than $500 in both of them. Easy to swap barrels with a savage wrench. Heck, the 6.5 cm prefit barrel I got on sale from a custom shop cost more than the rest of the gun. Didn’t shoot any better than the factory 243, though.

You guys need to check out the 783's from Remington, they are shooters!

But the 783’s stock is ugly!!! If they used the x7 stock ergos I would buy one or two.

Screw spacing is the same as a M70 from what I've been told. I sold the B&C stock of my M70 EW .270 to a guy here and he wanted it for his Marlin X rifle. Here is a good primer on how to do it, Marlin in M70 stock.

Made the same damn mistake with a blued XL7 270. More than a few people just don't get it when it comes to Marlin X's I bought my XL7 25-06 from a big box sptg store slightly used for $ 200 and tax

I was just curious, I bought two 7- 08 for my gread kids and they are shooters. Oldest kiull and Elk last year with his! I bout a 223 , floated the barrel and it shoots inside of a quarter. Just ordered a 243 from CCDN on close out for my windy day coyote rifle. Paid about $280.00 with shipping. these are great feeling rifles, plastic stock is the best I've seen on a factory gun and out shoot some of my custom guns that I have thousands invested in.

So are Marlin X guns, plus the Marlins used the same barrel shank specs as the small shank Savage 110 series barrel, so you could easily swap barrels if that sort of thing moves you.

The Marlin X guns' factory synthetic stocks are OK, as far as injection molded plastic goes, but I don't think that they are quite as good as the factory synthetic stocks that Weatherby is putting on the current Vanguard2s. I've swap all of my Howa 1500 stocks for V2 take-offs.

I've got a couple Marlin X guns that shoot nearly as good as rifles costing four or five times as much. Funny thing is that even when you show guys how good they shoot, they won't buy them 'cause they are too cheap to shoot that good. What they "know" to be true over-rides what they can see with their own eyes.
