I've been looking for one of these for some time. I have always liked the Remington 141 and thought one in a pistol caliber would be fun to hunt with. My brother has a 14 1/2 that shoots great and I figured for in the thick woods, up close it would be hard to beat. Found this Remington 14 1/2 in the rifle version chambered for the 44/40. It has a "patina" finish but for being made in 1914 and having seen much use it isn't bad. The bore is in great shape and the rifle has no pits either inside or out. The lack of original finish drops the value right into my price range for a using rifle! It has Canadian proofs which is supposed to mean that Great Britain bought it at the beginning of WW1 to arm airplanes, but ended up issuing them all over their armed services. It will make a good story for the Grandchildren anyway. Hopefully fall of 2019 will see this rifle put to use by adding a doe to the freezer....105 years after it was made.

Cool old Remington. How many rounds does it hold?
Posted By: Mathsr Re: Remington 14 1/2 - 05/18/19
It will hold 11 in the tube plus one in the chamber. According to an article I read, Remington wanted a rifle to compete with the Winchester 92. I guess they had to go with a 22 inch barrel to get the tube capacity that would make it competitive with the 1892 that had a 20 inch barrel.

That’s a beauty. IMO more original finish than usually found on a M14 1/2. The Lyman is a big plus.

Love it! A relative of mine has two 14 1/2's, one in 38-40 and one in 44-40. Cool guns.

Beautiful, I hope it shoots almost as good as mine.

I'm hoping to take a buck and a doe with my 38-40 Win model 92 this fall.

These are nice rifles - my .38-40 will shoot 1inch 5-shot groups at 50yds with the barrel sights. It could probably do better if I could see better😄

I think I'm going to put a front sight that is a little higher on this one. My eyes just can't pick out the one that is on there well enough to hunt with it.

A dab of white paint always helped me.

I've got 2 141's in 35 Remington, love them. Have always wanted a 14 1/2 in 44-40, great find, I'm envious. I've got a Colt Lightning in 44-40 in similar condition to what you describe 14 1/2 is in, brown, good strong bore. Love the Remington pumps. I can only remember one 14 1/2 at a gun show here in Alaska, a rare gun up here.

A Colt Lightning huh. You lucky dawg!

Those 14 1/2's are pretty rare down here too. I'd never actually seen one until about 4 years ago. I had a 14 and a 141 at the time, both were 35 Remington's. I knew I had to keep an eye out for a 14 1/2. I missed a couple because they were in near new condition and the price quickly left me behind.

The 14 1/2 R (carbine) is a beautiful gun.
