Started playing around with the 145 ELD X in the Christensen Arms Ridgeline 270 Win. Don't need to (got a couple good options already developed) but curiosity got me. Wanted to see about putting together a "LR Round" or as much as can me accomplished in a 10twist barrel. The 145 has a BC of .536 and if it can be pushed accurately at 3k plus at the 5-8000' elevation I hunt at - it could be the golden ticket. At the very least ballistic calculators show this to be quite formidable out to 5,6,700 yards.
Anyways, started very basic - Nosler Brass, CCI 200, h4831, bullets seated 5 thousandths off the lands. I started at 56 grains and worked up. Weird thing was 56-58.5 didn't shoot to the rifles standards(1.5-2" type three shot groups)
However, 59.0 showed promise. 5 shots under an inch and no over pressure signs.
What was interesting is that I was able to get to 59 without maxing out pressures - especially considering it was 85-90 degree temps. Also, the chronograph averaged these out at 3110 FPS. Now its a cheap Beta chronograph so I have to shoot out to 400/500 to validate velocities, but again it is promising.
Loading up 20 more of these tonight and will see what they will do tomorrow. Will shoot the first 5 to reaffirm the grouping at 100 yards, then validate the rest on the 400 and 600 yard gongs.
