I know that a 30-30 or 32 Special levergun can be reamed to .358 to clean up corroded rifling. Then it's simply a matter of neck sizing the parent case to accept 35 caliber bullets. But I'm wondering if a 30-30 has ever been bored for .348 bullets. Seems like an easy way to shoot 250 grain bullets from a handy carbine such as the 336 Marlin.

I recently handled a Mosin Nagant that had been bored to accept 8mm bullets. The owner stated to me that it was quite accurate, indeed. But I'm wondering if the same rifle would do just as well bored to .348. Yes, I'm attracted to the notion of owning a wildcat rifle that shoots .348 bullets. An original Winchester 71 in .348 is too costly for me to consider.

Finding someone to rebore to .348 might prove problematic.

I've heard of a 348/06 once before but never heard the 30-30 opened up to .348. Sounds interesting but I always thought the 30-30 should've been opened up to .33

Talk to MGM they have a .338X30-30 on their reamer list.

.38/55 makes the most sense to me, and "correct" for leverguns. Brass is available from Starline.

.35/30s were pretty common once upon a time IIRC.

I am convinced that my .348 Wildcat ideas are too limited by bullet selections.

There are Browning 71s out there for sale, usually for less than originals. Better made according to some.

Had a "real" one for a few years. Great rifles and round. There are enough bullets to do the job, just not a large selection. The 200gr Hornadys are sort of the standard.

Lots of molds are available for the .38/55, and some softpoints too, last I looked.

Anything wrong with the 35-30??? That's the way easterners did it many years ago. It could be based on a 30-30 improved. Be Well, Rustyzipper.

Bullets are out there, but what about chamber reamers and loading dies? I had a 223 Rem single shot rifle rebored and rechambered to 348 Win. Cost was $350 plus the cost of the rifle.
