The 30-30 is the Rodney Dangerfield of rifles yet imo is one of the best pure hunting rounds there is. When I think 30-30 I immediately think model 94 or 336 but I’d like to see bolt actions too if you’ve got one. Would love to see everyone’s pics.

The 30-30 is a cartridge.

When I was a kid, if somebody told you to grab your 30-30, they intended for you to grab your hunting rifle.

I have them in lever actions from Marlin, Mossberg, Savage, and Winchester, and pump actions from Savage. I've had bolt actions from Remington, Savage, Stevens, and Winchester. I've owned combination guns from Heym and Savage with 30-30 barrels. For most of the 1990's earned a little pocket money buying Savage 340 series bolt actions in 30-30 and selling them to a dealer in WI.

The 30-30 works well within its performance envelope, what more should be expected from it?

Ok, I'll do the traditional red/black coat...

I killed my first deer when I was in college with a borrowed '94 Win in .32 Spl.

The top rifle is a "Canadian Centennial" model that I bought the year that it came out. I only took it hunting once, but didn't shoot anything with it.

A few years ago I thought I needed a classic 30-30 for hunting so I bought the lower Model '94. I forgot that my 70 year old eyes couldn't focus on the sights like they did in 1965, however I did use it for my Colorado Mountain Lion.

Marlin 336 Rifle. Got it from a friend who said it was bought by his grandmother in the very early 50s, but that's all I know about when it was made.
OId style lever, steel checkered butt plate and fluted comb and pistol grip with walnut stock. Slim forend. Grip cap is missing Lyman peep sight.

One of my past 30-30s a Marlin Glenfield with a VXhog 1-4. I actually liked the reticle that scope had a lot.

One of the few Winchester Model 54s that my Father had in his collection was a 30-30 that had been rechambered to 30-40. I've heard of other that had been reworked in that way, but I've never seen one.

And how the heck do I just make the images appear in the post without having to click on the link?

I've accumulated quite a few Savage 30-30's. Too hard to go dig them all out. solid frames, takedowns, 20, 22, 24, 26" barrels. Have owned a Staggs Built O/U 30-30/20 gauge that was pretty cool, as well as the usual Marlins and WInchesters. Here's a couple 30-30 carbines with optional .410 barrels.

Bob, very nice hunting rifle you have there. I like your choice of scope, and......well everything about it. I had to put a hammer extension on my 1895, couldn’t manipulate the hammer with gloves on very well.

Roger that; it's the only thing "wrong" with this rifle. Newer extensions won't work on the older hammers and I don't want to put a new hammer in. I can live with it, though.

That old Savage looks pretty nifty. I like it.
Posted By: Exchipy Re: Show me your 30-30’s - 05/09/20
SS336,

All the exposed steel parts on that Savage 219 have had Black Nitride surface treatment. It makes for a handy, lightweight, all-weather, stalking rifle. Its .30-30 load of choice is a 125 gr. Spitzer Soft Point at about 2600 fps out of its 26" barrel. The Leupold 1-4x20 is normally adjusted to have that load strike point of aim at 200 yards. Though, for now, it's adjusted to put cast 311041s at 1650 fps on the point of aim at 100 yards.

I was gonna try to buy this one ...

it is my dream .30-30, but it isn't worth a bidding war up over $1000 for a used lever action. frown Maybe someday.

Interim model till Glenfield came out with the model 30
5930 made 64 65
1st 500 had serial# matching black walnut stocks and no G rollmarked after 36 on the barrel.
G mark on lower tang face inside buttstock recess.
Rare model but not anymore valuable than 336,s of it era.

It seems to be the only pic I have left in captivity of this rifle, I'll have to fix that.

1970 M94 Winchester I bought when I was 13 with paper route/yardmowing money, still have and use it. It's sent a lot of deer to that big clover patch in the sky. The only changes I've made are a Williams FP rear sight and an Ashley post front (could be Skinner, I don't remember).

Right click. Copy. With the [img][/img] prefix and suffix, like you have. The string you copy has to have the .jpg on the end (or some other image extension).

Actually, it's much simpler to use imgur.com. You can just click on the BBCode option and copy that directly into your post.

I've had my eyes open for a half magazine Glenfield for years now. They're rare in my parts.
I had one of these a few years back and traded it off. It was a great rifle and I killed a few antelope and deer with it.
