Late 1960s. Twelve gauge out a 40 mph pickup window. In west central Ks. It was legal then, may still be so.

2010. Been using a Stevens 200 in 22-250 close to 90% of the time. I have killed a couple with 223's and a 243. My 25-06 will see some action this year for sure.

About 1973. First time was in the middle of a cold frosty night. Rem. 788 and a hand held spotlight. Plopped myself down and started blowing on the call. Stopped long enough to hear the pitter patter of something running in the dark. Scared the crap out of me because I thought it was a range cow charging me. Lit up a coyote fifty yards away looking at me.

He got away clean.

If my paternal grandpa wouldn't have spent six years in Joe Stalin's vacation camp I would say, it probably could have been his K98k before.

Probably around 1962, when I was 16. Used the '06 my folks gave me for Xmas when I was 14. Was driving my '56 Ford Fairlane down a country road near our farm. Still have that rifle.

Gee`s, shouldn`t even even mention this...1955 with my new fox call, both short range and long range, Burnham Bros. Marbel Falls, Tx., course was designed to attract both...which it did. Had a bounty on yotes then, $20 I believe..they were scarce and skidish. Called in many more red Fox.

Ankle express...had two primary dairy farms I hunted..both located about 5 miles from home. Can`t tell you how many times I got a ride out by Officer Posse. Never said it, quess he didn`t think it good idea walking through town at the time....but I always had to walk home.

1995, red fox with my bow. Took two today with my 1873 in 44-40.

The 1st one I ever called in was 1977 west of the USAFA, and I was lucky enough to watch it come in from a long distance along a snow-covered 2-track, and I got addicted right then and there. Had a Ruger 77V 6mm, and I missed the opportunity. The shot and encounter was detailed in Predator Masters Magazine many years ago now, entitled "Predator vs. Predator", and the article was the most overedited piece of trash I ever had published.,

Right around 1989, target of opportunity whilst deer hunting in PA, Israeli Arms Timberwolf, .44 Magnum, big hole!

1968 on a slow day deer hunting with a 257 Wby. I actually thought I would make a few bucks on the hide. 100 grain Hornady's going straight away. I didn't have enough big pieces of the hide to make 1 glove.

Still a fan of early Hornady Pre interlock bullets in any caliber between 243 and 308.

My first several coyotes were all taken south of Cimarron CO. I was pretty young and didn't know that some guys actually hunted for them. Most guys in that area shot them as targets of opportunity and hung them on a fence.

By 1970 we lived in Illinois and coyotes were there in very limited numbers, but rarely seen. Picture in the newspaper if you shot one rare.

By the time I had my drivers license in 1974 they were expanding their range and becoming a bit more common.Saw and shot my first Illinois coyote in 1975, with my .17 Remington.
Was home on military leave in midwinter 78-79, and they seemed to be everywhere. I shot 2 coyotes and 5 fox while on that leave, IIRC. Today, you'll kill a dozen or more coyotes and feel lucky if you spot a fox.

Hunted them several years before actually killing one!

Told my buddy tonight about the one I called in yesterday..... shot him with an AR

I also told him if there was a 150’s whitetail and a coyote out in the field I’d shoot the coyote first and then try for the deer.

Back in 1889 I was using a prototype lever action 6.5 Creedmoor on the Kansas plains during a tornado and shot my first coyote at 900 yards and was 80 pounds and 6 feet long. Hunted with the 6.5 lever action for a hundred years and never missed at any range. Heck the coyotes would almost lay down and die when they saw me.......:-)

Around 1985 with a Remington 6mm. Drove dad's truck in the ditch trying to head one off that was cutting across the section...neighbor pulled me out. Didn't even get grounded. Coyote got away tho...
