My varmint load is a Sierra 85gr HP at 3820fps and it makes ground hogs vanish. It has also made a few crows vanish.

Got a pic of what an 85g at 3800 does to a woodchuck? I’m curious as to the amount of damage dealt. Unless the chuck did in fact vanish..

I've never used a .264 WM on varmints, but I'll bet it works. Ive used a .300 H&H and a .375 H&H.on varmints ..does that count?

at Ft Bragg in my youth, I saw a deer in a grove of pines that was hit by or hit near a 155 mm cannon shell...

This was out on an impact zone....

The Deer/deers didn't disappear... but there was hamburger for a 100 yd radius....all over the place...

That considering... a 264 Win Mag wouldn't be considered overkill....

I bought a nasty old used & abused pushfeed 264 that shot the 85 Sierras into bugholes at around 3600fps with a case full of IMR4831. It was great fun & LOUD under the range roof. Didn't shoot anything else under an inch & a half so it went DTFR.

DTFR, is a road well traveled.....

They will work.

Years ago my buddy returned from a two year tour in the Aleutians. He wanted to go groundhog hunting with me. He only had two .338 Winchester Magnums. We decided they were overkill and he used my 300 Weatherby mag. He shot one and all we could find was a back leg. Somewhere around here I have a photo of him holding just the back leg.

My old elk hunting mentor used a pre 64 model 70 in .264 mag to shoot rock chucks in northern California, many years ago. You didn't even need a license back then, even for out of staters.

He told me that several times he'd shoot at a chuck with that 85gr Sierra and not see any impact...? The chucks wouldn't even run off. That puzzled hell out of him and he set up a close target.

Among the holes he found shredded particles of lead and jacket material. Some of those bullets were ripping themselves apart before they got to the target!

Old Jim, was always leaning hard on the velocity throttle and found out that he needed to slow down a bit!

Now days I run the same bullet out of my .260 and seems to be very accurate.

If you like them buy all you can find. The word is that Sierra has discontinued them again.

I know a guy who built a 338 Winny rail gun for rockchucks. It was amazing what that thing would do to them at 600+ yards
