I was out in my shop this morning, wrapping presents, when this big ole 'Yote decided to walk into my yard.

A 75 gr. SSII out of my .22-204 capped his howling and scavenging career.

It was a standing 100 yd+ shot. Well, I did lean up against a porch pillar.

Well, he almost made it to Christmas....

Good bud said leaning up against something is still considered off hand for us seniors.

I like the way he thinks.

Thanks.

I especially appreciate my TX bud noting that leaning against the porch column still counts as off hand for seniors.

That was very kind of him and in the spirit of the season.

I’ll take it.

Merry Christmas

I like it, sweet to shoot one close to the house

I wasn’t looking for him.

Ya reckon he was looking for me?

Well, maybe not a Swift Scirocco.

He found both.

This rifle was picked up used a number of years ago, already had Jewell trigger and Lone Wolf stock. I paid about what a std. .223 Rem 7 would bring. I fitted a SS Brux 8 twist .22-204, glassed and free floated it.

The 2-7 CDS has the turret set up for this load. The SSII shot very well and has been stellar on hogs and such. This is a really handy truck gun, fast and quick to get into action and does what it's supposed to do.

The Jewell made yesterdays offhand shot a lot easier, even with a light weight gun; the SSII did the rest.

And, I do like Leupold scopes, the ones that work, my past rants notwithstanding.

This one does well, even tracks like it should. I turned the turret to 400 yds and it was right there. Now, with 7X being max, it was hard to shoot tiny groups at 400, but was well within "minute of a hog" and with a good bit of margin.... Probably 5-6" at 400, around an inch or so at a hundred. SSII's may not be the most accurate bullets but shoot very well with some tweaking. They can be a tad COAL sensitive. Their terminal performance is what makes them my choice for this gun.

Dead 'yote agrees.... shocked

Good job DF! A dead yote is a good yote!

Well, seems squirrels like my pecan grove. I’ve enjoyed watching them over the years.

But the little devils are costing me money. They ate up porch furniture, built a huge nest in my fireplace chimney.

So, it’s now a zero yard squirrel policy here. Killed #13 this morning. See one, kill one. Guess I killed off the dumb ones. Stragglers are wary. But even those occasionally get careless. Just takes once.

So it’s not just ‘yotes that get whacked these days.

I’ve gotten mean in my old age.

Ha!
