This morning took an old friends rifle he bequeathed to me on a sit in the blind.
It almost felt like old times with him.
Rest In Peace, Doug.
Thanks for being a Friend.
Looks like you used enough gun....
Bill in NE: Good for you in honoring your friend (Doug).
You are better for knowing him and having him as your friend.
Year before last I took my life long friends Rifle (that I purchased from him a couple years before he passed on) on an Antelope Hunt.
It was a heavy barrel Ruger MK-II in 25/06 Remington caliber and I am sure Jack would have been proud of me - 10 minutes in opening day morning I harvested a dandy SW Montana Buck Antelope with his old Rifle.
Enjoy your super-cool Rifle and your memories of Doug.
Thanks for sharing - and I hope your friend Doug and my friend Jack are somehow somewhere sharing stories of Hunts and Rifles.
Hold into the wind

P.S.: Does that Ruger #1 in 458 Winchester Magnum kick like a Mule?
" Use enough dynamite there Butch?"
Hopefully they charged you.
What does the other side look like, never mind.
Yeah ...just how much kick is there? Looks like there was plenty on the coyote side of the equation. Good shooting.
Great story, glad it felt like old times with your friend.
Good deal.
I saw 2 up your way last weekend. Made a little trip from Hiawatha KS to Beatrice to meet up for brass and powder. All of that looked like killer coyote country up through there.
Cool, .458 holes in and out I presume?
Nebraska coyotes are tough
Probably a target of opportunity while deer hunting.
Coyotes are always a target of opportunity to me.
I would like to thank you all for the support.
Yes, I laughed at several responses. You guys are great.
This was to be a hunt to honor and reflect on everything that Doug meant to those of us who knew him. He was genuinely one of the “Good Guys”.
I went to the blind that morning with only the expectation that when the time and situation was right, I would know it.
I’m pleased with the results.
There’s a reason he chose to have it chambered that way. He wanted to be ready if ever the call came over the radio that the elephants from the Shrine Circus went berserk and we’re rampaging down O Street in Lincoln. He was ready. 🙄
He did tell me it felt awfully small that time he used it for backup when they darted an escaped Bengal Tiger in someone’s back yard.
But yes, plenty horsepower for coyotes. 😉👍
You do any predator calling in your part of the world?
We do a little, but not enough.
Fine looking area up there
Very nice gesture and very nice trophy!
So, why people talking about 222 and Creedmore an stuff like that? Beware of the man with one gun!
