Does anyone have any experience using these on coyotes or prairie dogs?

When a manufacturer doesn't recommend them for hunting why even bother with them for a hunting bullet. There are so many bullets designed for hunting, I'd be looking at them. Save the match bullets for punching little groups in paper.

I personally like the 52gr Speer FB HP for coyote hunting, accurate in all of my coyote hunting rifles, plus they are quite inexpensive.

50gr NBTs are another one that is hard to fault.

Sometimes we can’t all find all the “hunting” bullets we would like to use. And sometimes the manufacturers make a bullet with targets in mind and inadvertently create a great hunting bullet that gets “discovered” by the public because guys try them on animals. Some of my favorite varmint and game bullets are match bullets and I’m not alone in the opinion.
Just because the box says match doesn’t mean you can only shoot paper with them.

And OP, sorry I have no experience with the bullet you’re asking about but if you have a bunch you might as well try them out.

Seems I read they work well on varmints, but, I may have mis-remembered.

Back in the 1980s and 90s am buddy and myself ran a lot of the 52HPBT and 53gFB slugs on yotes in 1-14 twist 22-250 and 220 Swift rifles. Our long terms observations were that they are a bit tougher jacketed than the explosive 'Varmint" style Soft or Hollow points or the highly frangible plastic tipped bullets,. The 22 cal Sierra and Hornady match HP slugs worked well for use for many years.

They anchored dogs well with shoulder or raking shots they also did not mess up pelts by prematurely opening up on wet or dense fur before even entering the body like the Plastic tipped slugs can do.

On predators, they perform a lot like a Lapua Scenar slug does on larger big game in that they hold together more consistently than you think they would yet they are still solid killers with good hits,

If your rifles shoot them accurately then the yotes are in real trouble.

I have no experience with the 53’s but my brother used the 52’s on yoties out of a 788 22-250 for years. He never complained about them.

Killed 100s of Woodchucks with the 52s from a 222 722 rem.

I've used them for that type of service Mark....

If they weren't suppose to be used in that type of service, no one told the bullets, as they worked just fine..

Met some Antelope hunting guys in Montana, via a good friend....

They used the 52 and 53 grain Sierra HP Match on Antelope as their preferred bullet...

worked out well, as they had been using them 10 to 15 years or more, for some of them.

Years ago I used the Sierra 53 gr. Match bullet for some coyote and prairie dog shooting. That lot did not expand much and a lot of things I shot went a long way or got back into their holes. This was out of a 22-250 pushed to a mild 3300 fps.

Mark shubert: I have used them in the past for range work - they are very accurate.
BUT.... just like its stable mate the Sierra 52 grain Match bullet they are VERY prone to pass through/ricochet.
I quit using them for Colony Varmints 30+ years ago.
I do not ever recall shooting a Coyote with them.

We shot a lot of coyotes with the 53g Sierra, however, they are no good for p. dogs.

Pard and I shot a lot of coyotes with the 52 and 53g Sierra Match Hp. We shot Rem 700's in 22/250 with 39g of Win 760. We also used them in Ruger and Savage 220 swifts with 44g of AA2700 at 3950-4000 fps in rem brass with 9 1/2 primers.

We did not have problems until the impact was too low or too far back in the guts.

52-60g Berger Match HP are a tad more fragile, and kill exceptionally well, but need a 12T for the 60g Bergers.

I did not shoot these bullets out of a bolt 223, used mostly 55g Winchester SP, 55g Hornady, any number of 55g Sierras of which my favorite is the 55g Sierra lead tip blitz with a max charge of Benchmark with a cci 450 that simply saws up a coyote the likes of which you just have to see to believe! Vel out of my Rem 700, 12T SPS is 3450 with Benchmark and cci 450!

Shot a few coyotes and a fox or 2 .Nickle size exit . They died and went home in my pickup
