I was thinking of driving 3.5 hours up into the Sierra Mountains in Ca this Saturday, but then realized this Saturday is opening day for Deer Season. Is it a safe assumption I should stay home and wait for the mania to die down?
Never been there, but, with people bumbling about all over the coyotes will be up and moving a lot. I've always found it easier to call a coyote that already up and moving.
I think it would be better to wait for the furs to prime up.
Don't know about the regs in Ca., but in Oregon being in the field with a rifle and no deer tag during some big game seasons is a violation.
It could be mighty considerate of you to refrain from adding more bustle in the woods. Crowding on public land can be bad enough on opening day, a cloud within the silver lining of "we finally get to go hunting"; another body, especially one that isn't part of the expected competition, would be rather a bummer.
Pat yourself on the back for doing a good deed, and reward yourself with a beer in front of the 49er's game.
