My deer hunting spot has been over run with coyotes this year. I haven't shot every one I've seen but I have started getting rid of a few.

Are any of you seeing a population explosion where you're hunting?

Where I hunt at, I have seen fewer deer and a major increase in Coyotes, probably explaining the decrease in deer..

and by the way, love that little Mannlicher Rifle ya got..
Ruger International?

I/we tried to shoot every yote when we not in a prime area ie. about to jump something. I remember shooting one with a 30-338 loaded with 190's, while he was running. he grew wings. lol

We've shot six coyotes since deer season started and have seen more. Thats more coyotes than we shoot in a year on the property most years. We've seen far less deer this year as well.

Haven't been calling much, but we hear them talking much more than we have in years. The ones we have seen are thin and we've heard reports of people seeing them chase deer. I had a doe at a feeder a couple weeks ago when a coyote howled close to me, she jumped as if she had been shot with a gun so I suspect they have been chased quite a bit. Plan to do some population control after the season before fawns hit the ground.

I live in SW VA and this has been a horrible deer season for me. I've hunted archery, muzzleloader, and rifle and I can count the number of deer that I have seen on both hands. I live next to the National Forest and I used to normally see 7-8 deer in the yard at night but I haven't seen more than 3 deer in the yard in the past eight weeks.

During this past Thanksgiving weeekend, I along with two others spent three 9 hour days hunting and I am the only one to see a single deer. We hiked several miles in search of deer sign and the further away we got from the cabin and road the less deer sign we saw. I've hunted this area for the past seven years and we all used to see deer. During the night, you don't even see deer feeding in the fields. We have a food plot and not one deer has been seen in it. It used to hold 10-15 deer during the night. The scariest part of this is that this past Saturday was a doe day and only three shots were heard in the entire valley. The farmers next to the cabin have reported a lot of coyote activity.

I shot two coyotes last deer season at my house during the opening morning of rifle season and I saw two coyotes on the opening morning of archery this year but I could not get a shot. They were headed toward the sound of a turkey above me. My father found a 7 pointer about 2,000 feet above our clearcut on top of the mountain that had been partially eaten during the opening day of muzzleloader season and a co-worker shot a doe in the next county this past Satruday that had been partially disembowed.

There have been very few sightings of yearlings and very few small bucks have been killed this year. The DNR says a lot of deer have been killed in VA this year but I can't wait to find out how many weren't killed in areas West of the Blue Ridge Mountains were it seems the coyotes have taken over.

Opening day of gun season in Northern Ky I shot 3 of 4 yotes and passed on deer The deer I passed on was a small fork horn actually seen him 2 times that week. To say they have over run the farm is an understatement. I have seen deer carcases and we lost a new born calf because mom hid it so well. So now its time to take on the dogs

The numbers in SE Nebraska have boomed in the last two years. Our coyote drives used to produce 1 or 2 per section, and now it is not uncommon to see 5 or 6. The other side is that we used to see 5+ deer per section and now we are lucky to see any in a days hunting. I have taken 4 coyotes this fall and have completely lost focus on deer. Time to take down some song dogs! T.S.

You guys got the coyotes, we got coyotes AND lions. They have done a real number on our Elk, Deer and Turkeys.
This year the lion quota is upped to 70 lions or 50 females whichever comes first. Season starts 1/01/12.
