I have an opportunity to pick up a 26 inch barreled M2 Super 90 benelli for $750.00 and wondered how much difference there is in this shotgun and the new SBEII I am saving up for!

I have had the M2, a SBE, 3 or 4 Montefeltros and an M1 Super 90. While all are great guns, I didn't care for the SBE, it was the only one I ever had jam occasionaly and 3.5" shells just don't fit into my use. The M2 was a fine gun but I let it go. The Montefeltros all shot great but pretty wood and me don't mix.

That leaves the first and current Benelli in my safe, the workhorse M1 Super 90 but I could live with the same model in the M2 version, go for it.

Personally, having no need for a 3 1/2" shell, I would much prefer the M2 over the SBE gun. Most of the troubles I hear of with a Benelli shotgun are with the SBE platform. The M1/M2 series is nearly bulletproof. I have two older H&K import M1S90's and they are superb working shotguns.

I am going to check and see if Patternmaster still makes choke tubes for the M2 and if so buy it.

There are a lot of great choke companies out there...

I have a SBEII but really don't need the 3.5 inch capability. I would say unless your primary use is pass shooting geese, go with the 3 inch gun, and use good loads for waterfowl.

I have a SBEII and it has been a flawless performer in the field.

I have an M-1 90 and it has been used hard and I've never had a problem. I have used the SBE before, but they never fit me quite right, just seemed a little long.

Unless you really want to shoot 3 1/2" I would go with the 90 all day long.

I would type in Benelli M2 malfunctions on Google and see what people have to say about it. I bought a new Franchi I12 for my boy a couple of years ago. He used the heck out of it between trap and bird/waterfowl hunting. It developed a hiccup in feeding that I couldn't get fixed. It went down the road - turns out that a lot of people were having the same problem with the I12's and M2's.

M1 Super 90 without a question is what I would do. Then again I have a few of them with more rounds down them then the average hunter will put down a barrel in a lifetime. They flatout shoot and you don't need 3-1/2" for any shotgunning.

What about the Comfortech stock is that worth the extra money they want for it? The used gun I was looking at sold before I could get back to the guy.

I just got a SBE II. New stock helps with cheek slap when you shoulder the gun less than perfect. I dont think they are 500.00 nice. I got a sceaming deal or I would have gone with the American or M2. Put the savings towards ammo and chokes.

I've got an SBE and my son runs an M2. Thinking I'd do an M2 if doing it over but that said the SBE was heck on ducks last fall. I love not worrying about wood in that environment.

Agreed on the comfortech, one has it, one doesn't and I just can't tell a difference.
