He got one of mama's laying hens yesterday in broad daylight.
good job............
need my 17M2 ?
A 22 long rifle in his left ear from my Ruger Single-Six did the job.
Looks like judgement day found him...
I had one kill 6 pullets last summer. I hate a dang coon.
Caught this big one today.
Ongoing process here. Caught dozens of them in that trap.
shame their hides are next to worthless now a days. I wack about 40 a year here just to keep them down

That it is.
That's the reason we have so damned many here.
Back when a prime coon would bring $35 or so, they weren't nearly as plentiful.
Damned treehuggers.
I trapped the first one today this year. What a nice fur but not worth 5 bucks. A little story here. I like rabbit hunt'n, and had problems keeping rabbits on a few acres in my back yard, full of brush, spruce and pine trees. So, in 2014 I started trapping those things in the spring. Season is closed but if I forget to lock the chicken coop , there will be a dead chicken or two come morning. I dont even bother planting my beloved sweet corn , strawberries or raspberries anymore . The coons even clean up on the cherries. So in 2004 I geave them the whole nine yards. I trapped 23 , the next yr 17 and in 2016 I got 23 , all in the spring. By fall of 2016 I had rabbits all over the place . I shot 7 rabbits in about 3 acres behind the house. I only trapped 3 coons in 2017 and last fall I barely saw a rabbit and didn't even shoot one last fall. Rabbit hunting was like the 1980's . They were all over. If we would trap them there would be rabbits and pheasants here and most likely why I have scouted a piece of public land about 5,000 acres for 51 miles this winter and never kicked up a single rabbit. I'm trapping the heck out of them this spring and Roundoak, if you dont have a coon cuff trap , for 20 bucks you might be surprised how well they work.
last year2017 I shot and trapped 11 raccoons,1 woodchuck , 5 rabbits, many chipmucks, one wild cat by my bird feeder, its still winter here in northern Minnesota and I shot 2 icky opossums 2018 ,last year 2017 no opossum
ihookem, I have several Duke traps and used them with success around the buildings, however quit their use when my wife began boarding horses and holding juvenile horse care and riding camps. We did not want any unnerving events for the guests.
Eat their little heads right off!!
Take him (and the trap) swimming.

Yep. That's what I do.
Loved the pic of the coon in a HAVAHART TRAP; used to to several a year with them. Figured that they were named Havahart cuz you could walk up to the trap and plant a 22lr behind the earear with no response from th SOBs.
When I was a kid, I worked as a janitor at a Junior High School. The interior walls for 16' tall and carpeted floor to ceiling. We would get squirrels and feral cats in there ALL the time.
One night my boss came to me and said take care of them
So I did. .22 pellet gun. That went on for 2 years until a teacher saw me one night and reported me to the principal. The next day he called me into his office. Told me to wait later on in the evening to go hunting in the school. I still get a laugh outta that.
Buddy was losing chickens. He made some coon sody-pop. Killed 20 some a a couple weeks.
Stuff works, but I don't like poison.

That fascinates me.
Had a bunch come in in the early 90's and they killed 34 at one time then went to the barn and killed a litter of kitten's. Had chicken's laying dead every where. Set out leg hold trap and got five before the last one broke the tie down and drug it out of the driveway. Never saw another till about 6 yrs ago, two in a tree. Got one with the 22 mag and the other took off right now. Never seen them again.

Recipe?????
Golden Malrin fly bait (farm store) and grape soda.
This is extremely lethal, and an off label use. Illegal in some states. (No schitt)
Anything that drinks it, will be found within feet. Seriously. Use extreme caution concerning pets or kids.
Thanks for reminding me, I bought some of that and forgot what I ordered it for. I will be careful, won't be any pets around.
I use a dog proof coon trap baited with peanut butter and sardine oil. Works very well but the squalls scares the bejesus out of the wife when a coon gets caught. Then I have to get up and take care of her problem. She should have to do it as it is her chickens I am protecting.
Roast Raccoon is very good eating, we saved all but the very largest ones on the trapline for the freezer, be sure to remove the glands under the front legs. We'd roast them like a turkey. Muskrat hind legs and backstraps got made like stewed chicken/rabbit with dumplings and sweet/sour red cabbage. Beaver liver and onions for breakfast, beaver stew for dinner and beaver jerky on the trapline for lunch. No sense paying for store bought meat when it is free in your yard.
I have eaten coon and liked it.
I have a question though.
How do you know if a coon is safe to skin and eat? I am worried about rabies.
