I scratched an itch and got a new varmint rifle, a remington model 7 predator in 223. I heard the twist rate was luck of the draw between 1-9 and 1-12
I got lucky (IMO) and got 1-9
Anybody have one, reload for it, make any mods.........?

Glad you got yours! Always wanted one but the twist rate seem across the board! Hate to order one and get the wrong twist. And I know I can call but IMO they should put it on their AD otherwise they are hiding something lol.
I think it was JamesJr that has one and he likes it. Sorry no loading data on this one.

Well, for what it's worth I just ordered this one from budsgunshop so I'd bet the others they have in stock are 1:9 too

I bought one new, from a member here. Before I shot it, I threaded the barrel for a suppressor, adjusted the factory trigger down to 2.75 lbs, and added a MPI fiberglass stock.

I really like this rifle, as it will shoot sub moa all day long. I got a 1-9 twist. Started out with LC brass, CCI primers, 55 grain Nosler Ballistic tips over 24.5 grains of W748. I have not tried anything else as if yet because this load is so accurate for me.

Right now, it wears s Burris E1 3-9x50, but is going to get a SWFA SS 6x soon.

This rifle is responsible for keeping my 223 Montana in the safe! Lol

Thanks for the info longshot, I shot it yesterday just like it came out of the box, the X mark lawyer approved trigger is over 4lbs but at least it doesnt have a bunch of creep.
I tried 2 factory loads and the load I shoot in my old model 7. It shot 3/4"-1" with all until she started warming up.
I filled the forend with acruglass last night to stiffn it up and removed the speed bumps. I had good results doing this with a model 7 204 I had. Im thinking a trigger is the first $ Ill spend on her and probably thread the barrel as well.
I put a 3x9 burris C4 I got from muledeer on her.....
I'll give that load a try, I have all those components.
What's your velocity? Around 3000?

I have a Predator with the 1-12 twist. I never intended on using anything heavier than 55 grain bullets so It works fine for me. My most accurate load is with a 50 VMax at 3350 fps, and it's one of the most accurate I've ever show with any rifle.

Not sure what the velocity is. I haven't chronographed it yet.

A good free-float should help things immensely. Let us know how it acted when you get out again. I got lucky with my factory trigger, but a Timney would have been on my short list. You are definitely heading in the right direction. Your rifle will likely shoot bugholes!

Erniethegunsmith sells a trigger spring for the X-Mark Pro trigger that will greatly reduce the pull.

Good to know, Ill check into that. Ive never messed with these new triggers, Ive usually been able to get the old ones to suit me. All the model 7s Ive had would shoot but I have to have a good trigger to shoot them well😁

Ive found that with all the model 7s Ive had, I bed the recoil lug and float the barrels and they'll shoot.
I also put another stud closer to the action to get the bipod mounted where the tupperware stock is a little stiffer.

I've had a bunch of the newer Model 700 and 7's with the new trigger....X-Mark Pro, and have only had one that I could adjust to the 3 pound setting that I like on a hunting rifle. I have had some others come close, but that was with that danged screw backed out about all the way, and I didn't like that. I usually just replace with a Timney and call it done. But, I did try a spring from Ernie and it made a huge difference. They don't cost much, under $10.

Yeah, I was thinking about the timney but I think Ill try a spring for the heck of it.....

That's great. That load has done about the same for me in just about every 223 that I have owned. Bump it up and down just a bit. I'll bet it tightens up even more!

I ordered a trigger spring from ernie, and as advertised it dropped the trigger down to 2 3/4lbs, huge improvement for $10!

25.5gr CFE223 55gr V-Max 2.275 col
Im out of practice shooting the light little rifles, some of the trouble I had with grouping was shooter error!

Glad you are happy with your .223 Predator as I’ve been trying to get my brother to pick one up. I have one in .17 FB that I really love. Once I get my suppressor I’ll have it threaded and it’ll be my go to predator rifle. Dave

I've got an sps in 17fb that I put in a LV stock, one of my favorites!

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but curious on the Model Seven Predators and how they shoot suppressed. Also did you folks thread the barrels yourself (and how if you did it, I e seen some DIY videos) or had a gunsmith do it for you.
