I have a Black Mouth Cur that tangled with a porcupine a few years back. He learned his lesson and has become an amazing porcupine hound. Every time we are in an area with porcupines he finds them and barks to let me know where they are. Even if they are in a tree or under a root ball.

Porcupines here are a major nuisance. You can shoot them 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. No bag limit, all that is required is a small game license

Took the beagles up to the Tug Hill Plateau to run some snowshoe hare while the training season was still open. My cur dog found 5 porcupines that I dispatched. Never did find a Hare track but it was still an awesome day out with the hounds.

They have actually moved into the western tier of counties here in OK. We don't need them and will make every effort to keep them out.

Yes they have. I had seen exactly one growing up. When I came back after a 12 year absence they’re all over, I shot 3 last year with my 38/44 Outdoorsman.

Great to hear you have such an intelligent dog. Sure do wish my bird dog would learn his lesson, I've had to pull quills on 4 separate occasions. Not a fun job for me or him, but it won't stop him from going after the next.

Do you have fisher in NY? We are lucky enough to have a decent population. Absolutely unbelievable animal to watch going through the woods, and a natural porcupine predator. They have no fear that I've seen.

Yes, we do have Fisher. And Bobcats as well. I have been fortunate to see a Fisher last year. Not a fan of them as they hurt the rabbit and hare population, but still cool to see them in the wild.
