Ft Pierre National grasslands south of Pierre SD. The bubonic plague went thru those dog downs a couple of years back and they still haven't rebuilt well. good luck

We shot there on an "on your own" hunt before meeting up with our guide in another part of the state. The shooting was fair but not great. The dogs were wary and knew when to stay down. On our guided hunting, we'd shoot about 300-350 rounds/day. On those hunts on our own out there on Pierre National Grasslands, we were luck to shoot 100 rounds/day. It's still a good option if you've never been.

Just got home from spending the last night of vacation in Pierre. Seen a few dogs west of Pierre on Hwy 14. The dogs are there , if you have time to look. A side note:
If you need to sight in or re-sight in your guns, there is a real nice public range just north of Ft. Pierre off state hwy 1806.

From what I understand you have to have a guide to shoot on the Rosebud.

Just got back from SD. Where we were, there were fewer PDs than at the same time last year. It's been a wet spring. Grass was tall and lots of cattle grazing which was not the case last year. Pups were small. Several places we shot last year had been poisoned off.

The good news, is I have plenty of ammo left and will be hitting it again in late July.

That is true, guide required. Have shot there several times last few years. Guide takes you to a pd town, tells you to call if you need anything, and he will check back every few hours. And often he will move you to another Pd town if you want.
Wish there was not a guide, but that’s the rules, abide by them or stay home and bitch about it.
