Hey guys, anyone had any luck with the 88s in an 8 twist? I tried running up charges in H414 and RL16 and even over 2900 fps they keyholes. I have tons of other powders to try...thinking maybe Rl23 or 26? I'm running a 22" barrel .020 off the lands. Hoping for a good 800yrd round for varmints. I'm running 75 bthp at 3200 and 77 Tmk at 3180 with good results. Just not having luck with the 88s.
They are too long to stabilize in an 8 twist. You'd be better off with a 7 twist in order to make it work. I'd stick with the 75 gr ELD-Ms.
Is there a sticker on the bottom of the bullet box w recommended twist rate?
With your setup my favorite bullet is the 80gr VLDBerger, the 88’s obviously need a faster twist regardless of what powder used
Yes. They recommend 1 in 7 twist. I was hoping to find a powder I could push them fast enough with to make it work in a 8 twist. My 800' elevation and below freezing temperatures aren't helping either...probably will have to try a different bullet.
Don't fight it. Shoot the 75 eld and smile.
88’s shoot incredibly well out of my .22BR at 2,950fps. But I’m running a 7 twist. I think you’ve probably got some room left over 2900 in a .22-250, but if 75 ELD’s shot well at 3200 or more, I’d not fret it too much.
Theyhave worked for me in 8 twist barrels but I was shooting them at 2800' ASL and in warmer temperatures .

I don't think you will pick up enough velocity with other powders to make it work.

Speed helps but IME, is a weak substitute for twist.

This is sooo true. If you run the stability factor on Berger's site, it proves this. Speed is no substitute for twist.

Firstly, measure your twist rate,so you KNOW what in the fhuqk you are dealing with. Hint. Congratulations?!?

I shoot 88's in more than a few 1-8" spouts,as 22-250 SALAMI goes. Was doing so,just moments ago,in frozen temps. Hint.

Pass the '17,a squared Smooch and 2950fps is a literal breeze in a 22". Hint.

Expecting my POS 8" Teeker '250 in Today's Mail,as I had The Kali Kid punch it Speedmire, due the vast superiority of the case design and ability to drive Alpha brass. Hint.

Just sayin'.
