Any reccommendations for a good factory round to use in a Tikka 22-250 1:14 twist? I tried Hornady Super performance 50gr Vmax and they are all over the place. I picked up some Federal Fusion 55gr and they are better than the Hornady Super performance. Rifle is used only for coyote hunting. Thanks
Try the white box winchester 45 grain it has shot well in every 22-250 I own. And it hammers coyotes!
I've had good luck with the 55 grain Winchester gray box soft points, out of two different 1-14 tikkas. But I'd like to try federal 55 fusions and frontier 55 Hornady soft points.

Fairly fur friendly?

It is looking like I need to get away from the 50gr Vmax. I have the Hornady varmint express 50gr vmax and those were a little better than the super performance 50gr vmax.
I'd be looking at Winchester white box 45's or hornady 55 spire points.

I killed 2 or 3 with these factory 45 grain bullets, never saw an exit.
Might also look at anything loaded with a 50 or 55 grain Ballistic Tip if you want to stick with a poly tipped bullet.

I have shot both weights on coyotes. Both work fine but for some reason I prefer the 55 out of a 22-250.
Thanks for the great info. I appreciate it.
I don't have a 22-250 anymore and miss it.

I had a Savage 111 and could not improve on factory accuracy with handloads.

Killed a bunch of coyotes with the Hornady Varmint Express 55gr Vmax.

I am seeing a pattern here cool...another 55gr.
Should be okay w a 14 twist and most 55 grain poly tips unless you have something a fuzz slower than an actual 1:14.
Update...The Federal Fusion 55gr is shooting very well out of my 1:14 Tikka. It definitely does not like the Hornady Super Performance 50gr Vmax.
Jim Wi: I am a "dedicated handloader" and prefer, for many reasons, to handload for all my Rifles.
Over the past 6 decades I have handloaded for virtually every centerfire Rifle I own - and I own a LOT of them!
A while back I bought a Remington Model 700 VSSF (Varmint Stainless Synthetic Fluted) Varmint Rifle in caliber 22-250 Remington.
I mounted a Leupold 6.5x20 variable scope on it and decided to try some Winchester factory ammo in it that I had taken in with a trade.
The factory load is the Winchester 55 grain "Polymer Tip Rapid Expansion" rounds.
It shot so exceptionally well with that factory bullet (initial 5 shot group at 100 yards measuring .389"!) that I decided to go ahead and just use these bullets.
I have only taken it to the range a couple more times and according to my loading log in not the best conditions (slight winds each time!) for sight in verifications - it has averaged .462" there at 100 yards for five shot groupings!
I highly recommend these 55 grain Polymer Tip Rapid Expansion loads for Varminting and predator Hunting. I have taken Rock Chucks, Badger and Coyote with these factory rounds to date.
Best of luck to you with the Tikka and I hope you do as well with the Winchester 55 grain Polymer Tip Rapid Expansion bullets as I have.

Thanks VarmintGuy. I will definitely check those out.

I have had very good luck with Remington Accutip 50 gr in my Tikka's. 300 yd shots are common here. My record shot is 626 yd shots with Zeiss 600 reticle.

I don't know why yours doesn't like the 50gr v-max. That's all my buddies and I use in our 22-250's. Too bad you don't load your own. Sounds weird that a Tikka would be "all over the place" any how... Is it a varmint model?

I don't even waste my time with 5 shot groupings in my Tikka 1 in 14 varmint rifle, because its just 1 little hole for 5 shots... 10 shots tells more of a story... Oh, by the way, that's with the 50gr v-max that every 22-250 I've tried it in loves. I'd send the OP's rifle back and see what the fu ck is wrong with it, if it were mine...

Not the varmint model.....it is a Stainless T3X.
At times, to check accuracy I try Sierra 52 grain match bullets. There should be some factory loaded rounds someplace to try. Again, not necessarily for hunting, just another to attempt to see how a gun is capable of shooting.
