In the last issue of VHM, it says (p.169) that you can use one die for neck-sizing a bunch of cartridges. If I read it correctly, it means that I could buy a 22-250 die, for example, and use it to neck size my 221, 223, 22-250, 220 Swift, etc. Is this correct? Has anyone had any experience doing this?
-------------------------------------------
Critr
www.SaguaroSafaris.com

I have their comp dies in several cal's. I don't beleive you can use them on any cartridge other than the one they are designed for . The sliding sleeve is cut to be close to chamber dimentions . This is done to support the case body in alignment with the bushing . Producing cases with necks that are concentric with the case body.To do otherwise would negate the "precision" of this design and the extra money you spent on the Redding competition die . muck
Hi. muck. Thanks for the reply. I see that you have been registered a while, but not posting. Well, welcome to the campfire. Jump in there with us now and then.
I was a bit sceptical of the info in VHM, and your reply seems a lot more realistic. It is hard to see how you would not sacrifice precision when you go muckin'(sorry 'bout that [Linked Image] ) around with a die on cases it was not designed for.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Critr
www.SaguaroSafaris.com
While what muck said is true....you CAN use a .22-250 Redding competition seater to seat .223 rounds. These are the only cartridges I can comment on as I have done this in a pinch before. It would be fine for a few rounds here and there, but if you are going on a PD trip and plan to load 2,000 .223's, I'd get the .223 seater.
visit me at.....
http://www.geocities.com/hogshooter_2000

------------------
"OOOOOOHHHHHH I hates varmints!!!!" - Yosemitie Sam
Visit my homepage....

I have used my 6mm rem die on 243 and my 223 for my 22-250. As long as you are using the same caliber (224 that uses 224 bullets) you should be able to use the same neck sizing die.
The only reason it may not work is because for example if you use a 223 neck sizing die on a 22 hornet, the thickness of the brass for that particular cartridge may not work properly for resizing the neck, it may not shrink it enough on the down stroke.
The decapping pin/expander ball should work for all similar caliber bullets. That is to say an expander ball for a 22 hornet will expand the neck the same diameter as a 22-250 expander ball.
I am sure there are holes in my theory but that is what I think until I learn other wise.
