Eastern hardwoods, particularly central WV. What are you guys carrying? I like to go light. I’ve used a 8x36 monocular in the past but I’m looking at binocs for the FOV. Are 8’s or 10’s? The eyes ain’t what they used to be. Light but good. Thanks.
I use 8x32mm Vortex Talons; sometimes I wish had a 6x, as I am pretty shaky at times from peripheral neuropathy. A 10x would be terrible for me. The 6x30 Leupold Yosemite or Kowas might be a good choice, especially where I live, Alabama. Large open spots might would like 8x better.

6x Leupold Katmai working great for me.

Ibelieve after some thought, 8x seems to be where I need to be. Never gave much thought to the shakes.
I've also come to believe that the lost field of view with a monocular is a real hindrance.

My 6x are light, small, and I can 'one hand them' w/o bad shakes while holding my rifle in the other.

If you are in more open terrain and FOV not as critical, the 8x might be your ticket. I used 8x32 Pentax DCF in the past for deer hunting.......

8x30 or 8x32 in pretty good glass will make you a believer...

I have set of Eagle Optics 6x30s that are just pretty sweet. Not the quality of my Kahles 8x32s but still pretty nice.

Guns, knives, and now binos for squirrels?? Where are you guys finding this miniature sporting equipment? I've always just given them peanuts. I wonder what they'd do if I outfitted them with gun, knife and binos?

Squirrel 's don't need binoculars, they have biocrustomatic vision abilities for vertical and horizontal double congratulate visual vectoring.

Now the knife thing, now that's a whole nuther jar of peanutbutter. Last time I saw a squirrel with a bowie knife was at deFlaves house just east of the res.

Rough neighborhood, huh?

Squirrels have good eyesight. I don't think they would need binoculars.

My Swarovski 8x30 binos are pretty much my constant companions while I am in the woods, regardless of what I am hunting.

I can't imagine anything larger than a 30 or 32 for carrying around. My 6x Katmai's pulled out a squirrel in a very brushy White Oak tree the other day...so often the Fox squirrels are masters at hiding....but my bino's always pull them out if they are there any hair at all exposed. Caused the demise of many this season alone. Definitely a deal breaker. Cat or Gray squirrels will often run whenever seen...not so with these Red Fox squirrels. The male's seem much more elusive, several I had hang up real tight were males, the bino's sealed the deal.

I use Vortex Diamondback 10x32 and am pretty happy with them. I just bought my son the Vortex Diamondback 8x32HD and told him they were the ones I would buy if I did it all over again.
The glass is good and the are small and lightweight. I prefer the 8x over the 10x for stability. Vortex also has a lifetime warranty and excellent customer service.

Apologies to everyone who replied. I had forgotten about this converstion. I ended up getting a pair of Bushnell Forge 8X32. They are heavy but they are without question the clearest binos I have. They've done very well so far.

why would a squirrel need bino's?......

To see you come sneaking through the woods with your Woodsman..

For years I used a Leupold Katmai 8X32mm bino, but recently switched to the Leupold BX-4 Pro Guide 8X32 and the clarity is much better on the BX-4... I switched because I love my BX-4 10X42 bino that I use while guiding moose and bear hunters... so I thought I would try the little brother as a stalking bino... good move. Two thumbs up 👍👍!

I hunt with irons. I figure if I can't hear, see, and locate a squirrel without glass, I won't be able to hit it anyway.

Are you all using the glass to locate the squirrel at a long range and then walking in?
Posted By: urbaneruralite Re: Binos for squirrel? - 03/07/21
I use them to find treed sq. We have tall trees in GA. A sq can stay far enough around a trunk or limb to remain hidden if you have no glass. Sometimes all you can see is a little hair or the tip of an ear. Then you move around to get a clear shot.

OP already bought his. I have used an old pair or Leupold Yosemite 6x30 for years. The coatings are starting to seem aged. May have to replace.

Huh. Maybe I'll give this a try next season. Thanks for the info.

I’ve got an old set of Leupold Porro 7x35 that I carry for everything except big game. Pretty sweet old glass.
