Opening day of squirrel season wasn't really fun. I woke to rain , drove to the spot in the rain and then waited for rain to stop. 7:30 it stopped. Hit the woods and killed 6 by 8:45. Decided 6 was good enough for the day considering the weather. It was at least 75 degrees at daylight and with the humidity and the 20 something spiderwebs wrapped around me I trudged back to the truck scratching the dozens of mosquito bites I earned. maybe next weekend is better.
Hey a day squirrel hunting (even in warm, crappy weather), is way better than lots of other things......
You still got got six, that was great considering the weather. I hate mosquitos, drive you crazy buzzing around your face and ears.
Ok I went back and hunted Friday and Saturday morning. Limit of 8 each day in quick time , 1.5 -2 hours. Weather still kinda warm but not bad.
Tensas NWR in Louisisana , best squirrel huntin in the world.
I'll be out tomorrow but I don't go into the woods this time of year, when temps still climb to 80 or more and humidity is high, until I can see those damned spiderwebs really well. This is the time of year they get thick in the woods. Freakin' big fat Ord Weavers build those huge webs across paths and trails and sit in the middle of them. And they always seem to be at face level. Many times I've walked into them and felt that fat marble-sized body hit my face. My natural reaction to that tends to alert everything within 5 miles that I'm in the woods. Learned long ago that you pick up a stick no shorter than 3 feet long and waive it up and down in front of you as you walk along.
The spiders seem more abundant this season.
