We had a great opening day dove hunt yesterday….lot birds flying and great weather. Many the guys limited out. Just wondering what your % of kills per box of shells?
15 for 21 shells with ruger 28 gauge with 410 tubes shooting 1/2 ounce Win AA 9's
Here in the Missouri boot heel if you hunt private like I do then you can be choosy about what shots you take. I used to be able to do close to 20 per 25 shots but with my health issues the last couple years it’s between 15 to 20. My best 2 years in a row I took 3 limits (45) with 2 boxes (50). Them days are gone now for me.
Would add that on public with strangers blasting away all around, getting a limit (15) with a box was doing very well
I average a dove per box, but that goes down if they are flying.
Went on my first 2 hunts last year. Average was 8 shots per bird. Felt bad but experienced guys said it was not too bad for a beginner. Said they had read, the average was shots per bird for experienced hunters. Did see guys take 2 birds with one shot. Once on each hunt I went on. That will help your average.
