That the builder made up of parts collected and reused from other old wore out rifles. One an old government contract rifle. Anyway that’s his backstory to this rifle. Reuse of parts and freshening of barrels was quite common. So I cristened this rifle "Old Lazarus”, being brought back from the dead.

Finally got around to inscribing his name on the toe of the stock.

Barrel would have been freshed out to .54 cal. Swamped. Rescued from some old broke stock rifle. And some of the furniture would have come off a Harpers Ferry 1803 rifle.

That's a beauty!

Seeing that powder horn...do you know of anyone who has use of a few shed cow horns? None quite as curled as that one, but pretty good sized and in really good shape.

Hey Ed! Thanks!!! It is extremely well balanced with the swamped barrel. As for horns yes! I can use them!! Lemme know what you want for them. The horn in pic is a bison horn.

The horns are yours, my friend! The cows didn't charge me a penny so I'd feel guilty for charging you. laugh

normally i wouldn't ask but i just have to........ Shed Cow Horns? them cows shed raised?
all in good fun!
right now i am using a resurrected 45-100 barrel a old armpit buddy gave me 40 years ago. it has been on a shelf in one of my out buildings for that long.
came with a round barrel extension/chamber extension whatever screwed into it. someone years ago viced and pipe wrenched it trying to get the extension off.
vice on the barrel and wrench on the round. i filed flats on the extension and just finished draw filing the barrel. now i have a tapered swamped 45 cal barrel that has to find its way into a stock. Maybe i will name it Lazarus 2

LOL!

Yeah always liked all the old winchester lever guns and colt single actions folks brought in over the years with the "Stilson" mark of approval on the barrels!

Same way with screwdriver slots! The ones they took out with a broke wood chisel’

LOL

Thanks Gunner! The bag is my own creation. And the bison horn, I reworked and fingerwove the hemp strap for it. I am regulating that horn to my old NW trade gun and brain tan elk pouch as it just looks so much better together. This gun works great with buck or bird shot and old eyes! 😉

Northwest Trade gun below. With bison horn and elk pouch!

I broke down and used some of my stimulating check and have another horn coming in for Lazarus. Yeah, I usually make my own horns, but I decided to splurge this time.

Kaywoodie, love the rifle !

Is the lock a repurposed lock? I'm assuming he made a new stock. I like that it has 1803 Harpers ferry parts.

Well, it has a Davis "Common rifle” lock. Which is kinda sorta like a contract common rifle lock. It’s different than An 1803 lock. And also a bit different than the Model 1814 and Model 1817 US Common rifle. But that’s what they call it.

Actually this rifle is closer to a Lancaster STYLE trade rifle. Built for the fur trade and also for tribal annuities and gifts. Circa 1800-1820.
Walter Cline would be proud of you.
