I see many people looking for 209 primers and wonder why they don't buy some cheap shotgun shells, cut them open and dump the contents and have someone with a loader press out the live primer.

Cuz pressing out a live primer from the anvil side might have a negative outcome? 🤭

Safety aside - I’d assume that the primer would be slightly under sized from the first seating.

YMMV

Self-destructive considerations aside, have you priced shotshells lately?😳

If ya can't find any it is an option though.

I’ve decapped some live rifle primers, slowly, carefully, and with a face shield. Not sure how much force a 209 would take.

Glad I don’t have to try it.

Over the last 30 years, i have decapped 100s of live Rifle & Pistol Centerfire cases without any issue. Go slow

If someone is close to NE IL (no shipping) and needs some Federal 209MZ primers, I have 300 band new ones available that I'll "donate" to the cause.

No problem, I needed some for my savage smokeless muzzleloader and they worked fine. As Pappy said I wore a face shield , ear plugs and leather gloves. Drilled a .25 in. hole in an old 2x4 and tapped them out with an old nail with a blunt point.

They don't take much to press out, when I was reloading shotgun shells with my mec 600 they came out with similar pressure to center fire cartridges.

My size master 77 is shielded enough I have pushed a few out over the years.
