Any good or bad experiences with these. LGS has a nicely stocked .50 cal half octagon half round barrel with a 3x9x40 Leupold (older VXII on it. Really has my curiosity peaked .
I've got 3 of them. The rifles that were made in Weston, MO, were great, after that it was a crap shoot. They are a bit of a PITA to clean, so a lot of folks prefer the break action style
I have one that is extremely accurate. When I was younger I would hunt with it all the time. The only problem with them is they are big and heavy. Cleaning is a hassle but not as bad as the older side locks. Remove the bolt, run extension to remove breech plug. IMO a well built accurate gun that is a looker. They put some nice wood on them.
A side note, the stocks on these rifles were designed by a good friend of mine, Hulet Million. Hulet ran the factory of Bishop Gunstocks before Potterfield decided to buy it which ended badly for the city of Warsaw when he went belly up. Phil
