Looking for opinions on the various 209 conversions on said gun. The badger ridge conversion seems to be at the top of the list but I'm wanting to hear about any of the others out there. Thanks!
I'm still undecided on what I want to do. I would like to do the conversion but it's pricey and I'll only use the gun a few days a year.
I’m in the Badger Ridge group - anything else you do to the rifle to make it more reliable - is going to end up costing you more than the BR conversion.
If the bore is good, that conversion will last you for years to come.
I have hunted with one for years. I did Badger Ridge conversion a few years ago. I have shot black powder and most of the substitutes. Now use BH209. My rifle shoots 300 grain bullets well. The lighter ones it doesn't shoot as well.
I did the badger ridge conversion on an old beater I picked up at the gun shop for $100. Instant ignition with bh209 and excellent groups with the .430 300xtp and the 270 deep curl in a green harvester crush rib.
My gun came with a 209 conversion but not the badger ridge. I have the firing pin, breech plug and spring still but the badger ridge is what I’ll be using.
Three of us installed the Arrowhead system on our Remington Ultimate muzzleloader.
All of us are using Blackhorn 209 powder.
We first used the Thor Hammer 300 gr. G1 BC .220. Not sure what diameter bullet the others used but .502" worked best for me. Was able to get some nice groups. We took several elk with this bullet with excellent terminal results.
More recently we switched to the Fury universal fit 320 gr bonded bullet. It goes down the bore a bit easier and is very accurate with a higher BC than the Hammer. G1 BC .260
