I have a Lyman Deerstalker in .54 cal. Round ball is ok but not what I would like. I have a!T/C Renegade with a 32" Green Mountain barrel with RB twist but it is really heavy.
I was looking at the Lee REAL mound but was hoping ti find someone that had some to try before I buy a mound that may not work for me...

i shoot them in my Lyman Great Plains .54. Flintlock
use a 1/8 inch felt wad over the powder. i get 3 inch accuracy at 50 yards.
I also have a Cabelas .54 with 1-28 twist. without the wad it will hold 2 inches @100y. with the wad it cloverleafs.
i have a TC Hawken flint .54 with 1-66 and it matches the Lyman at 50 yards.
I have a TCHawken flint .45 with two barrels. the TC barrel shoots about 4 inch at 50 with the r.e.a.l's .
the GM barrel tightens them up a little but likes Maxi's better.
my powder data probably won't help you. it is homemade.

Tried them and found my TC Maxi Balls worked better.

1:60, 1:66 and 1:70 twist like the Green mountain and Lyman GPR barrels are for round ball accuracy. 1:20 like the Green mountain LRH are for conicals. Thompson Center and others compromised with a 1:48 rifling twist to shoot both.
Idaho Lewis has some great YouTube sessions on methods to shoot conical rounds.

I used them in my 54 Deerstalker and they killed with authority.

The Lee REAL bullets were my preferred bullets in my .50 caliber sidehammer guns. Still have a few buried on the shelf somewhere. They were so much easier to load than the TC bullets and I saw no difference in accuracy. If anything, the Lee's were slightly more accurate. I found the shorter bullets in .50 cal were more accurate in my 1 in 48 Renegade barrel.

My Pedersoli Jager prefers the Lee REAL bullets, 380 grain if I recall correctly
It has been sub zero F for over a week, but would be glad to forward a few to sample once I get back out in the shop
My pot belly stove warms it up but prefer to ventilate well when casting 🦊

I still have moulds for the Maxi-hunter and even a .54 Minnie but they are so heavy that the recoil is punishing.

i have the same as moose95. .54cal is 385g from my mold. also have .50 and it casts at 250g

I shoot the REAL bullet from TC new Englander, 54 cal. The 300 gr. bullet over 105 grains of T 7 loose powder. It is accurate and kills deer when placed in the center of the front half of a deer.

Tried them in my Renegade. Not as accurate as Maxi Balls

the Lee R.E.A.L. bullets work well for me. I'd recommend them.

I have a .54 cal REAL mold in 300 grain, and somewhere around here are some bullets already cast. I will send them for you to try. I used them in a 1-26" twist Renegade barrel that Bobby Hoyt re-bored from a .50 cal. They work great, by the way. I think the heavier version might even work better. PM with address?

I’m pretty sure my molds are Lyman copies of the tc maxi. Nothing in Lee, don’t think I’ve even seen one. My TC’s all liked the Tc maxi anyway so there was no need to experiment.

The 250 grain .50 R.E.A.L.s actually shoot well in my T/C flintlock Pennsylvania Hunter.
She's a ball gun, with a 1-66 twist, but doesn't seem to really like ball. The above mentioned R.E.A.L, a .54 overpowder wad and 70 grains 3f Swiss Holy Black. Do not forget the wad! The rifling is deep enough to constitute a trip hazard. Without the wad, gas cutting and leading are... bad.
It's actually a little shorter than the Hornady Pennsylvania Conical.

I am using the heavier 320 gr. in a T/C New Englander .50 with a 1/48" twist . +1 on using a wad!

So Your using .54 wad in .50 cal. ? Did you shoot .50 wads and find .54's more accurate ?

. 54s do a better job of sealing the bore. .50s work, but not as well as the .54s. Its all about protecting the base and controlling blow by.
