After watching those big old mature bucks show back up after our general season has closed...I decided to take advantage of our 2 week late muzzle loader season.

I generally only hunt with handguns, mainly revolvers. So I decided to try my hand with the Optima, ordered it and am expecting delivery today.

I've done some research, and have a few different types pellets to try...white hots, 777, ect.. couple different primers...winchester, cci, fed 209s...I have a bunch of different .429, and .452 handgun bullets both cast and jacketed. Have several styles/sizes of sabots on order.

I plan on installing either a ultra dot, or a millet red dot sight, as those are what I have on several other guns.

I've read about the 209/blackthorn breech plug, but have not ordered it. Thinking maybe I should...???

What else?? What have I not thought of??
Your experience, advice, comments, thoughts ??

Thanks in advance!

I have the same...I use a light charge of 777 at 70 gr with a sabot and 240 xtp. Winchester primer. Shoots good at 50 yds which is an avg shot here in pa. Have got the chance to shoot anything with it yet. Fun guns.

Got the reddot mounted this afternoon, if the weather cooperates tomorrow afternoon, I'll try a few loads.
Only 777 I have are 50 gr. pellets, I believe...
2 may be a little more than I need, and I'm fairly sure 1 won't be enough! I have ordered the breechplug recommended for loose powder, for that reason.
