anyone here hunt with the new silver powerbelt ? i haven't tried them but bought a few packs of the 50cal,270grn at the wally world clearance sale,just to play with. 5.00 a pack.
That's a great price. Have tried the 338 gr Platnium PB's they didn't shoot so great but I have not tinkered with them too much....let us know how they shoot for you
What rifle will you be shooting them out of? $5 a pack is one hell of a deal.

I shot the 348grn with 100 grams of 777 in a Austin & Hallack inline. I got 3 in. groups at 100yds with open sights!

338 platinums average around 2-2.5" for me at 100 with open sights out of a TC Omega. Didn't take a shot with them on my elk hunt last fall though which kinda bummed me out.
Thats the way elk hunting usually goes Center. This year i'll be chasing after them with a .54 Great plains Flintlock.
I know with my fathers cabelas hawken, when i put the charge at 80 grains, they'll do just over 1 1/2" 3 shot group @ 100 yards. He prefers the 348 copper series for elk and 295s for deer.
Funny isn't it, still probably one of the best outdoor experiences I've ever had, plenty of shot opportunities, just never quite right on the one I wanted, as close as it could be on several occasions without actually happening, I walked off the mountain scratching my head as to how it didn't the last day of season.
My buddy shot "the wrong" bull about 5 days into the hunt, using the 348 aerotip, after seeing the results he got on a 'smallish' 2.5 y/o with awesome potential, really a shame he was already a 7x7, I think I'm going to look 'elsewhere' the next go around. My dad should draw the tag this fall and I'm thinking I'll load him up with 370 maxiballs or possibly the 'Colorado Legal' dead center conicals, I think they're like 430 grains or so ?... I've shot a couple of the maxiballs out of my Omega and I think it'll do fine with them. Just want something that has a better chance of fully penetrating on a broadside shot and a bullet that will actually stay together. My buddy shot a 310-20 bull twice, thought he had missed both times inside of 70 yards, we tracked him close to a mile never found any blood. Shot that young bull a few days later, after seeing the terminal performance on the small bull, we're not so sure he didn't hit the large one after all and makes us both sick.
Thats what happened when you're shooting to much powder. 348 grain powerbelt with 100 grains triple 7 is to hot. With powerbelts, the less powder, the more performance the bullet offers you. I wouldnt use the maxiballs, i shot a two deer with them and lost both due to poor bullet performance. One was even shot at 30-35 yards right through the lungs and that deer ran a 1/4 mile and then 1/2 a mile with the second shot.
I have my fathers rifle set up with 348 grain hollow points and 80 grains of pyrodex rs. These expand to the size of half dollars when they impact something solid.

Any other experiences out there from the season of 07? Do the new platinum bullets hold up better then the original coppers as advertised?
I'll be finding out in a couple weeks if the powerbelt platinums are worth the extra cost and if they hold up any better. Mainly will be trying the 223 grain .45 powerbelt, 270 grain and 338 grain .50cal platinums. I need to build a couple sandbox traps to catch the bullets in.
I have to aggree with "Big block455 " that the T/C Maxi-ball is somewhat lacking. The Hornady Great plains bullet does perform.
