Just picked up a CVA Optima and they recommend IMR White Hots. Anyone use these? IMR does not recommend more than two in any rifle (guess this would be 100 gr equivalent). CVA lists ballistics for three white hot pellets in their magnum charts. Would like to hear first-hand info on both charges.

I used them in my CVA Accura last year and had excellent results with them. Two pellets with Barnes 250gr TEZ and winchester 209A primer was shooting sub one inch group at 100yds. Don't use them if you think they are going to be cleaner than Tripple 7 because they are not, you will get a crud ring and have to swab between each round. I aquirred an after market breech plug so this year I will be switching to Blackhorn 209. Most everyone will steer you towards loose powder as it is much cheaper and better if you need to fine tune your loads.

I use American Pioneer Powder two 50 gr Pellets and switching to the Muzzle-loader 209 primer just about eliminated the crud ring

Yes I have used this and can tell ya it hot, also I've use about everthing out there in this what I have found. The white hots if going with pellets loose powder black powder 3-7 , then the cleanesty of all american pioneer but use 10-20 gr more if your going with 100 gr add 120 this works great

pro - softer fouling than T7
Cons - still best to swab between shots for the best accuracy

If you want the best, use Blackhorn209.

Can he use the Blackhorn-209 without modifying the Breechplug on the Optima?

As long as he adjusts the headspace and uses cci 209 magnum primers he stands a great chance at being ok using a factory plug.

For Blackhorn 209-be 100% sure of ignition and buy the new QRBP just released by CVA designed just for loose powders.About $21 from CVA or Western Powders.
