friend of mine just got a new accura v2. he is having problems with hangfires when using blackhorn 209. he was told at the gunshop that cva was having some problems getting these guns to shoot BH . anyone know how to fix this??

bigblock isn't this the combo you are shooting?

Bigblock drills his factory breech plug flash holes out a tiny bit for black horn. Also, he said CVA came out with a breech plug specifically for Blackhorn 209 this year and you can order it from CVA for like $20.00. Im sure he will chime in soon.

Do first shots hang fire, or later in the string? I know that carbon buildup in the channel of the nipple/breech plug area cause hang fires. Use a snug fitting drill bit to clean the channel at a regular interval. CVA just started selling special breech plugs just for BH209. Ramshot recommends drilling out some breech plugs to a slightly larger diameter for better ignition.

I shoot an Omega and a Sidekick with BH209. Never had a hang fire, but I keep them clean and I use CCI 209M primers which are the hottest going.

i thought i had read somewhere on here that he was drilling it out a bit.

CCI 209 Magnum primers
#32 or 3mm drill bit - clean flash channel every 6 shots or so.

The most important deal however is making sure you adjust the head space for a TIGHT primer fit so the primer seals up all the gasses rather than dumping it in the frame.

You have to read the booklet that comes with the gun

booklet doesnt mention blackhorn209. Its a very simple fix though. I left my newest Optima's breech plug factory except for enlarging the flash channel to 5/32" vs factory 3mm due to me shooting so much on the range. Less cleaning = good for me LOL.

a bummer! 4 deer total in 9 days and no shots fired at them. We did get 5 grouse though! Man them suckers are good on a cold evening.

Just buy the re-designed QRBP from CVA or Blackhorn for about $20 , I did and it solved my ignition problems.

I have an old Knight MK-85 that has a pretty small flash hole. A 1/8" bit will not fit to clean it. Would I do more harm than good to drill it to 1/8"? I don't get misfires with BH209, but I want to be able to keep the hole clean.

When drilling the breach plug flash hole, any special tips? I would be concerned about breaking off that small bit when using my drill press.

Start with a smaller bit and work your way up to the 1/8th bit. Its probably years of carbon build up thats stopping the bit from going through the FLASH CHANNEL. Your FLASH HOLE is probably around .034-.035ish. You are using a bare primer Knight plug, right?

I just tried poking a 1/16" bit in the hole, no go. Bare primer? I guess so? I converted to the 209 primer breech plug from the original cap plug years ago. No disk, so I guess it's bare primer.

Drilled out the flash hole with a 1/32" bit.. The bit drops through, so it may have been mostly crud in there because the hole is bigger than .031". Thanks. I will try shooting it again this week after I clean the channel too. I want to see if my groups shrink.

1/32 bit =.03125"

Clean the flash channel out good though, thats the main area you do want to keep carbon free. It doesnt take many shots for it to start filling up.
