Ok so I have been thinking about building a smokeless muzzleloader. My neighbor has a 700ss 50cal ml that the nipple has rusted up in & cant get the breech plug out on. What kit makes sense to convert to 209 primer & shooting for this year & going smokeless later & or shooting blackhorn 209?

A smokeless MZ with 209s is not safe.

Thinking about the badger ridge 209 conversion - Bad bull is way out of my league. Ill shoot it with the #11 percussion caps before id pickup a 5000+ front stuffer

He has no clue what he is talking about. Savage and many others used a 209 for smokeless for years. Gunwerks, SMI and Swinglock still use them in their highend SMLs. Ive shot many 1000s of smokeless loads with 209s in my customs. LRMP does have some advantages but its certainly not required for building a safe smokeless muzzleloader.

BadBull is nothing but a bad joke with some serious powder limitations. Huge loads of 4350 to get similar fps to what i can get with way less 4198 or several other powders is plain stupid.

There’s a nice clean Remington 700 MLS SS on gunbroker for $350. It’s not currently set up for 209. Not sure how easy that would be to convert to 209 but if I wanted to go smokeless, I’d buy that and send it to Luke at Arrowhead and have him get you set up for next year.

If you cannot get the the breech plug out, it limits your conversion options. It also makes it all but impossible to give the barrel a proper inspection and cleaning. If it were mine, I would either continue to work on getting the breech plug out so you can see what your options are there, or remove the barrel and go straight into your smokeless conversion.

I can pick it up for $250. Would like to hear some ideas on how to tackle getting the breech out.

It will probably be easier to just remove the barrel and replace it with a take off that is not rusted all to hell. By the time you are done the SS one on gunbroker might be a bargain.

I don't think I would go $250 for a buggered up Remington. A couple of years ago they were going for $150 to $175 for a #11 Remington around here.. A friend of mine bought every one he could find and converted them into smokeless. Maybe the market has gone up, I don't know.

I would like to hear how your friend converted them to smokeless, I'm probably not going to do an arrowhead $800 conversion, Ill use blackhorn & clean it before I do that.

I have a NIB 700 ML Youth rifle with an extra full LOP stock and a bunch of extra parts that I bought from Remington back in 2009. This is a blued rifle with a 21" barrel.

Bill pulled the factory barrel and replaced with premium .45 caliber barrels and stocks. Bolts were converted to .209 ignition. Total cost usually ran over $1000. Personally, if I found a Rem #11 ignition rifle with a good bore, I would convert it to 209 ignition and shoot BH 209 out of it.
