As seen at the Alamo today....

A 42" barrel Short Land Pattern Brown Bess (actually the longer of the two muskets) as compared to the later 39" barrel India Pattern Brown Bess, the last major incarnation of that famous musket.

These guys who volley fire 'em every day for the tourists much prefer the India Pattern, they say that mere 3" difference in barrel length makes the India Pattern surprisingly easier to load at speed.

What??? No long land patterns or officer's private purchase fuslis????

Edit!

Or my personal favorite. The light infantry fusil! Basically a 2/3 scale long land pattern in carbine bore!

Well,,,,,,

Kinda thought we'd get into a cool musket/smoothbore type thread.

I currently have a light Infantry fusil all torn apart in assorted and a sundry pieces going thru a refurb. Pics when done.

Anyone else Enjoy shooting smoothbores?

Last turkey I killed was with a Northwest trade gun I gave to archaeologist son. Kilt deer and hogs with others I have owned or still own. Really like
My French Fusil de Chasse.

Love to hear more. Birdy how did day go at Alamo?
