I bought a Lyman deerstalker a couple months ago via midway. I received this by email today.

Dear TOM,

You are receiving this notification because you recently purchased a Lyman brand black powder rifle or pistol. Lyman Products Corp. is voluntarily recalling some black powder rifles and pistols due to the potential of separation in the breech plug. Lyman maintains a safety-first approach, so despite finding only a few firearms affected and no reported injuries, they are offering a recall program to have the issue corrected.

This recall includes black powder rifles and pistols regardless of caliber (including Deerstalker, Great Plains, Great Plains Hunter, Trade Rifle, Plains Pistol, Black Powder Kits, and replacement barrels; excluding Percussion Left Hand Great Plains and Left Hand Great Plains Hunter models) manufactured from March 1, 2017 to December 22, 2017. Barrels with the serial number in the range of A595960?A599026 are subject to this recall.

Find the serial number where the barrel meets the tang, opposite of the lock. The serial number has the letter A followed by a series of 6 numbers. If the serial number is within the range of A595960 through A599026, immediately discontinue any use of the product. Please contact the Lyman Customer Service Department by emailing [email protected] or by calling 800-225-9626 Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. EST
.

We apologize for the inconvenience,

Tom I have a deerstalker I bought 20 years ago its a great rifle. mine loved 100 grains of 777 with 240grain XTP in a sabot.......It also shot round balls very well good luck. your going to love it.
I can't legally shoot sabots in our ML seasons though they're ok if I want to shoot the ML in regular deer season.

It's definitely a good feeling gun. I haven't shot it yet ... too busy trying to wring out a new .338.
To anyone else waiting ... my replacement barrel arrived from Lyman overnight. Gotta get the cosmoline off and get it back on the gun.

70-80gr 777, Great Plains 385....70-90gr 777, Powerbelt 295. No point in pushing them too fast. 80gr seems to work best in mine.
Is you Deerstalker cap or flint? What caliber .50 or .64. Was it complete or a kit?

That stinks. We've got our problems, but deer tag availability ain't one of them.
Yeah, but so far as the ML, I can legally hunt the regular season with a sidelock. Have a few times.
