Have had enough fun the last few years hunting with the right-handed Hawken, that I decided to go ahead and get a lefty build going. Using Tom Watson to assemble the parts I bought. He is quick and quite reasonable on this type of work. And the rigs that I have seen built by him certainly seem straight and well done. He is sending pics along the way so I'll post them as we go. It'll have the longest lop we can get from the pre carved extra fancy maple stock. Barrel is 54 cal, 70 twist and will be cut to 34". Here are a few recent pics as we get underway.

Might be done by Christmas though it is officially my 30th wedding anniversary gift for 2019. Pretty excited to hunt with it next fall.
Looking good Kurt!!!
Thank you sir! Congrats on your CO elk success. Son's bull looked really nice.
Very nice Kurt. I think you’re on to something there. I love the CFs but dropping back to hunt with MLs is a bunch of fun too!
Can't wait to the finished rifle..
More steel is inletted. Tom is making great progress.

Expecting completion in mid Dec.
That's gonna be nice. I've got a couple of Flintlocks I need to drag out and finish. I'd love to build a Hawken someday.
Staples in barrel set, and under rib and thimbles on. He is moving right along. His communication during this process has just been excellent.

Lookin’ up to Green River! No pork eaters rifle there!
That is what we are shooting for Kaywoodie. Still gotta upgrade powder horns. Figure this one will be headed up the hill next fall. Not sure if bear, elk or deer yet.
Update from Tom today. He has everything shaped and wanted to confirm stain was to my liking. Once he applies sealer it may pop a little more but this one is looking fine to my eye. Here is where it sits today.

Lookin’ good!!!!!

😉
That stock looks beautiful. Hope it's a shooter for you!
nice wood on that Hawken.
Few random pics of finished gun, not received yet here in CO. There was a repaired crack on the toe that is evident on one side. And there was a small repair in the lock area. I think the figure on it is pretty nice and what I was wanting. Hoping when I get hands on it, that it fits what I was looking for. It seems to at present. Still needs to be proofed and should have here around Dec 17.
