Taking a muzzle loader out for the first time, will be using pellets and a sabotted bullet. Inline 209 primer. How many shots before I can expect fouling? How many shots before cleaning? Don't plan on that many, but more than 5 rounds. Will the old standard Hoppie's work or do I need something else?
I have good luck with # 13 bore cleaner, you can also get it in patches, and you can send one down after 2-3 shots.
It does depend on what type of pellets as far as how dirty it gets
I have White Hots and Pryotex, I know the soap and hot water, but doubt that would clear plastic fouling from the Sabot. Rifle is an older Knight original DISC.
one to 2 shots. I highly suggest cleaning between each shot. Water based cleaner will work best for you.
Do not use hoppes to clean your muzzleloader. I use tc13 as well and it works great. But I also use alliant black mz. But get tc13 patches and swab after every shot.
I shoot BH209 with sabots, and use Hoppes to clean with. Works great. No idea about cleaning up after White Hots, but I don't think Hoppes is the way to go.
On my caplock, I use hot soapy water to clean T7. That works well.

Doesn't Western Powders make a cleaner specifically for BH 209 ? I would use Acetone to wipe out sabot residue
It states in the brochures that Hoppes or any other nitro solvent should be used with BH209. BP, 777 or Pyrodex is another story. In addition there are solvents on the market to remove plastic fouling caused by sabots

I have always used Hoppes with BH209, worked great and I never had an issue with sabot residue. I would use shooters choice or acetone to attack that.

Bh209 is the only one you can use regular solvents to clean with. As stated already do not use solvents with bp or bp substitutes.
Looked over all the MZ stuff, forgot I bought a TC "starter kit", so I have some TC#13 bore cleaner and will use that. Helped a friend build a kit gun years ago, but this is my first foray into muzzle loaders. Wondering about bullet selection, have a couple of different sabot type loads, would the Thor bullets without a sabot be a better option? .50 cal. Will also pick up some BH209 and try loose powder as well.

I second the no13 cleaner. Some companies, T/C included sell prelubed no13 patches for cleaning. I like them a lot.
stop wasting money on that contact lens cleaner. Simple warm soapy water, some denatured alcohol and your favorite gun cleaner/oil.
Windex and rubbing alcohol mixed is a good cheap cleaning solvent for stuff like T7. Whitehots are very similar to T7. Finish up with any good synthetic oil or food grade mineral oil based lubes.
Why would he want that when he already has a Knight DISC rifle?
