Try loads between 100 and 110 grains by volume of BH 209. For primers use CCI 209M or Federal 209A. I have used several bullets between 240 and 300 grains with generally equal success. This year I used Speer .429 diameter 270 grain Hot Cores designed for a .444 Marlin in a Harvester Crush Rib sabot.
Mine is a #11 cap but it shoots very well with 85 grains 777 loose and a 495 no excuses.

Who told you this whopper of a tale about twist? Twist needed is based on a formula which includes bullet length and caliber. It may not shoot a 300gr+ 45cal bullet as well in a sabot but it will certainly shoot a much larger 50cal conical just fine. CVA does not want you shooting bullets in sabots that weigh over 300gr. Why is anyone's guess but a 1-28 will shoot a 400gr bullet in a sabot if its not too long.
I was told the CVA handles BH209 very well with the special BH209 breach plug. You NEED that plug. I witness 1 moa 5 shot groups wiping down after every shot. That was 100 grain 209 and some kind of plastic tip Barnes copper bullet in a black sabot. (ok I asked it was the Harvester same as Leon) What I found interesting is a 2nd shot from a fouled barrel hit almost 4 inch low at 100. So; I guess for that gun, it was best to either foul the barrel before hunting and set the scope low or wipe it down and be all zero in for the first shot from a clean gun. The clean barrel shot the best and seemed the way to go.
I am suspicious of any solid copper and for my uninformed opinion, I would want something like a 240/250 grain jacketed lead hollow point bullet. That is for effect over shooting the smallest groups on paper or for theoretical longer range. FWIW - I am not the guy hunting this gun.
Mine has produced 1.5 moa @ 100,and I killed 3 milk jugs in 3 shots at 165 using the horrible factory sights.
The super short sight plane and crappy sightseave a lot of room for improvement. I was going to install a peep setup, but just fell into a vortek strikefire this week with a much better sighting setup.....so I'll likely park the wolf.
