I have a T/C Renegade with a single trigger that trips at about 10lbs. I bought a double set trigger for it from Track of the Wolf that was described as a replacement for the T/C Hawken or Renegade. It arrived yesterday so I started to take apart the rifle to make the swap and it looks like I need a whole new lock as well. Is this correct? My current trigger is part of an assembly that includes the trigger guard. The double set is just the trigger, no guard. So, do I need a new lock and trigger guard in order for the double trigger to work? If so, I think I would be better off to just have my gunsmith tune the factory single trigger.

I'm from the old school on Renegades/Hawkens and haven't seen any with a single trigger..I've owned 4 or 5 of them with the newest made prolly 15 or 20 years ago so this is a shot in the dark cause I'm goin on that era of info.

If the lock is same as it was made back then...then no you do not need a different lock.

The Renegade and the Hawken double set trigger group can be made to trip any T/C lock that I can think of but likely will require a little wood work...I've converted a Pennsylvania Hunter and it worked just fine. I've also use the double Renegade trigger group in a flinter I made with a Traditions lock.

The trigger group you speak of does require the use of a seperate trigger guard and again the steel one from a Renegade or the brass one from a Hawken will work but both also need inletting to work properly.

The conversion is up to you but be aware that it's not a quick/easy job for the uninitiated.

All the TC locks are the same.
Sounds like you have one of the Renegade "Hunter" models, factory made with a single trigger...doubt they have all the extra wood inletting done to accept the double set triggers...and as was said, then a Renegade trigger guard would have to be bought/installed...all doable, but it'll take some time and money

Thanks guys, I did some experimenting with the double trigger and my current lock last night and it looks like it will work with some inletting and a new trigger guard.

Do either of you know the dimension from the back of the trigger guard to the bottom of the stock????? Just want to get it in the right place.

The right place is dictated by the contact point between the lever on the lock and the levers on the double set trigger. All that geometry needs to line up just right or else the single stage trigger won't "pull" right and the set trigger striker won't make proper contact as it strikes upward.

You want both levers of the double triggers to swing up and contact the lever on the lock so that there is no loss of contact at the very end of the stoke...easier to do than explain. If in doubt have a smith take a look at it.
