Just 9 days past the Solstice and it is getting dark here! We just started the new cycle a day or two ago and we are technically in the "waxing crescent" phase... but there is NO moon and it is frigging dark! Just took a piss off the deck to test and there was zero concern about exposure.

And it is still downhill all the way from here.

Try that at 50 below, Art.

You'll have concerns about "exposure". smile

But I'll take your word about it- I don't stay up that late. Rephrase- I am not awake that late.
Diminished illumination due to wildfire smoke.
Can't imagine how fast it changes there.

Our sunrise only changes by about 3 hours total.
Late winter, late summer, I'm amazed by how fast i go between driving to work in the daylight to dark.
After 18 years in Fairbanks, one knows to get outside at lunch in winter, or simply miss the “day”.
In the summer, one can almost literally hear plants complain that they can’t photosynthesize any more.

“Make it stop”!

We have some cow parsnip that's gotta be 7.5 feet tall.

Amazing how much growth that and devils club put on in a day.
Can't imagine how corn would grow if it had good heat and water with
that much sunlight.

We did not have that much smoke... It was the dark of the moon, though.
Was the dark of the moon
on the sixth of June
In a Kenworth pullin' logs
Cab-over Pete with a reefer on
And a Jimmy haulin' hogs

Yeah but you could say the same in broad daylight, right?

Are you suggesting the range is long... or the target diminutive?
I go to bed every night in the light. But it is all downhill from here
You can grow corn up here. Maybe Anchorage would be better because of temps but it works in Fairbanks. Not enough frost free days for it to get real big tho.
