We should all just bring our wives since we can easily outrun them lol
Wow! Makes for some great coffee break conversation. Found a little scorpion in our downstairs bathroom once.

After eating the poor victim and his clothes, the bear would have crapped them out?

Just a guess.
wink
The “pants crapping” happens after all’s quiet…or so I’ve heard 🧸
Haven't read about this anywhere else!
I've noticed over the years that quite a few news worthy events that take place in the more remote regions of Alaska never gain enough traction to be reported outside of the area in which they occur.
How we never had a grizzly break into our cabin in Montana when I was a kid, I’ll never know. We had them on the porch and in the yard almost daily.

My dad kept a single shot 410 by his bed and shot several grizzlies in the ass when they got on the porch and into the old ice box we kept bread in.

The only thing keeping the grizzlies out of the cabin was a 2 inch hollow core door and a $2.00 door knob…
When in Sitka in 2021 there was a sow brown bear and cubs breaking into the garbage at the fish lodge we were staying in. The house we were in was 30 yards away with a door that was half glass. I could hear them at night trying to get into the garbage and thought the door wasn't much of a deterrent for her if she wanted in there.

Mine would have that bear mowing the lawn and doing chores.

hahaha that's funny mjbgalt!

Happy New Year
This is why brown things don't break into people's cabin's in remote alaska........the odds of getting shot are high
A commercial fisherman friend had a bear break into his wife's mommy van and shred the interior trying to turn it into a den for the winter.
Ok,,,,,, one thing you need to understand,,,,,,,, that a Cabin in Brown Bear Country, whether or not it's here in Alaska, or the lower 48,,,,, the most important thing is, it's construction and how that Door Opens,,,,, yea, it better be built to Open-Out,,,,, ie.... look at Dick Proenneke's Cabin Build
LJ cool

I doubt that a bear is thinking about getting shot for breaking into a cabin. Their power of reasoning and fear of death is less likely than their fear of starvation…
Good point.

But if there is no deterence (like hunting) ever, the word gets around, and they become lousy neighbors. Cubs learn from mommies, and a load of #10 in the ass may or may not teach a brown creeper to either beware, or maybe just piss it off. And Hank....bears break into cabins all the time in Alaska....if they can.

I have some impressive scratch marks in the logs of my remote cabin, mostly near the "kitchen" window, where it (probably the one that sleeps under the overhang when we aren't there) is closest to food smell from inside. Which reminds me- I have to get splicing connector for the propane line, which I found crushed shut the last time we were there. The door opens out..... smile

I have heard some guides/outfitters hang bottles of bleach around the cabin when leaving for the season. Bears love to bit into plastic bottles. I know from personal esperience that a can of aerosol bug spray in a case of the old paper quart oil cans also works well. smile
Yeah no thanks

I was stationed in Kodiak from 96-99. It was very rare that bears would get anywhere near places inhabited by humans. The dump was the lone exception. That has changed, and encounters with humans are on the rise on the island. When I was there this summer a bear walked up to the fish cleaning station while we were sitting in the house.
Crazy story. Are 12 ga slugs the norm up there?
Incredible story. Glad the family was unscathed
