What’s that 3 times in last 5 years. It got hit last year as well.

Right before I retired from DOT&PF ( 6 months ago) there was some discussion of installing "headache bars" on this route. This is a bar installed at the same height as the bridge clearance. You'd hit it before the bridge and get an inkling that something was amiss. Problem is that knocking the bar off into traffic can have consequences too, so it was vetoed. Seems like you cold have some sort of laser beam connecting to a flashing message board that would let the truck driver know his load was too tall - but again, that would require that someone is paying attention and has some semblance of cognitive ability.

I had the same thought. Apparently it never works. But you know what almost always works? Stinger missiles!

We have traffic lights that come in and say no right turn!
Don’t turn and try to go under the under pass!

Works pretty well .

Instead of a bar at the bridge height, what about a higher bar with a curtain of two or three foot lengths of light chain, something to make a noise?

We were talking about that the other day. In several cases it probably wouldn't have done much as these are semi trucks hauling atco trailers. Or in one case an end dump truck with the bed up doing night snow removal. Sleep deprivation may have been involved in that one.

Didn't they try that at the Eklutna overpass some time back?

This mishap wasn't from a truck on the Glenn. It was a truck passing under the Glenn on South Birchwood Loop. The speed limit is 45, so the damage would have been worse had the truck been going 65. DOT was working on it the other day.
