Ran in to our cabin today to fetch our new fridge and take it back to Home Depot for an exchange as it was missing parts and had a disconnected wire (thankee Chinese union guys)

heavy snow coming down the whole time. cool

thought the season was DONE, but these new snows have given extended life to running sleds

accumulated 3-4 inches up there in the 3.6 hours it took me to round trip it.

thinkin I'll make another run Sunday night,

ain't many cabin journal entries that say, "snow came by sled, May 6th"

hell IIRC i've gone there in the boat by this time some years!

let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

grease the sleds and wax the skis, still fun to be had! grin

Oddly enough...my Mom in north Missouri is facing the same kind of snow there! Latest snow they've had there in decades.

Yours is fairly common, at least.

Geese and swans are stacked up here in Delta as I've never seen before. The grain fields are still snow covered but the springs in Clearwater Lake keep that open for em.

Chinese union...lol. smile

I am rather certain that the penalty for saying "union" in a Chinese factory is death. Command capitalism is the rule - think captains of industry of the Gilded Age on speed.

Had a track meet in some fresh snow at Homer yesterday. smile

4 inches of snow in Kotz today. It all melted on asphault and bare gravel surfaces.

peas and snow...

I grew up in central NoDak (hey- I'm COMFORTABLE with Arctic weather...). One of our neighbors - Stella Piatz - once commented about my mother - "that goddam Schweigert is out there planting peas in a snow storm!"

She was, too. It was time, and damn the weather! When you have 10 kids to feed, a Nature-hiccup just doesn't figure into the schedule.... smile

Finally found some open water Sunday Upper Trail Lake next to fish hatchery. About 200 yards and paddled my new Saturn 13 ft fishing Kayak stable enough to stand and paddle. Tracked well has a fixed rudder. Will be a neat go ashore and explore boat.

As of this date - or at least this morning - I'm in Soldotna now- Kotzebue Sound still had ice on it, tho there are open, flowing leads. From the plane, I could see the minor creeks were open-dunno about the Noatak, Kobuk or Selawik rivers, in general, tho about aweek ago it was 80 degrees and flooding in Kobuk. Most of the tundra country is bare, with drifts still on the lee slopes.

Spring has arrived, however, as the first wave of outboard motor migration has arrived.... smile Robins got there about 2 weeks ago, and the first river rafters came in 2 days ago. The back end of my snowmachine grounded yesterday from the melting drift out back. Yep, Spring is in Kotzebue!

Hey- it's GREEN down here!!!! smile

love reading those old tomes Klik

I've got one in the camper now that goes into pretty good detail of Alaska's history, back to when the Ruskies first started venturing here.

enjoying the hail outa it

I've run across some good old, rare documents which have been scanned onto the internet. I've seen at least one interesting document which originated in Russian, but got translated. Interesting stuff alright.
