Was out training the pup this weekend when I hear a shot close to camp. So I went to check it out & find the wife sitting there telling me about a wuf that decided to have a close up encounter. Wife went into tent grabbed & when she came out dog came from back side & continued at her until it was about 10yds when she decided seeing the teeth & hacklels was enough. Ended it with 10mm to the head neck area one more for good measure as it scrambled a few yards away. In my minor observation it looked healthy, not skinny or sick. Wife said 3 more were about 75 yds out before bolting.

Keeper wife for sure. Odd behavior for a woof this time of year, no doubt.

While moose hunting a couple of years ago some hunters near us had a similar experience. Father, son, and grandson were up on a little ridge calling and had a wolf come in on them. They would have let it walk but it made a beeline up the hill straight at them. The son said they got up, yelled, and even were waving their hands at it. He said it was fixed right on his 8 yr old boy. That was enough for him and he dropped it at about 10 yds. He wasn't too thrilled about it as they had a moose calling back and coming in. After skinning the wolf, the 8 yr old was ready to go home and dad obliged, meeting mom at the trailhead. Those fellas said they had been hunting that area for nearly 30 yrs and had never seen anything like it.
