Yeah, that should do it...
Got a picture of a decent ram today, but I will leave it for the recidivist to post...
Would hate to be a critter that dude was looking to kill... hint...

I joked with him about that very thing before he left.
I told him they all should quit running and hiding because they're just going to die tired that way, but they're still going to die.
This thread is WORTHLESS w/o pics . . . just sayin'
I will leave the pictures for him...
He went
He saw
Stuff died...
We can start hanging pics if you'd like, but they wont be of the sheep or the hunter that killed it.
<shakes head>😉</shakes head>

Has the weather been clear? Hot and clear here mostly...
Pissing rain from Tok to eureka the tma and wrangells are socked in.
How many guesses do I get as to whom?

NO!......we've only had one nice day in ten........rain every day and creeks are high.
Friends [whom you know] used the fog to advantage to get in close after spotting a big ram
on opening morning.
Farmers can't harvest barley because of rain so geese and cranes may pass over.
Just got a picture of a serious sheep killed...

That would really suck... would you guess the Alphabets are getting lots of rain?

No permission yet, but the bigger one is an awesome ram...
Who kills a smoker ram and then doesn't post pics? WTH?
Well, I just had a night of wild passion with a.., no TWO supermodels. Tons of pics and hours of video.
Sorry, can't share; they're shy.😜
patience is not really one of my strong points...
Art,
I think South of the range has had less rain but I haven't watched closely.

Maybe they're waiting to sell the pics and the story to a high dollar magazine.
Well, as we wait for those pics, here's my contribution to keep people reading.
Not a big ram, but a full curl 8 year old.
The key to making a sheep look big is to take a picture of it with a tiny rifle!
Got pix of a few dead sheep, some pretty nice, but it’s when there was more pepper than salt in my beard.
Plus I’ve never learned any other photo sharing gig than photobucket.
But I am looking forward to seeing pix of modern day rams killed by you kids that still have gas in your azz. 👍🏻
Congrats cwh2. Nice ram! 👍
Nice ram cwh2 congrats. MB
That one don't suck Chris!

cwh2 and others - we need your stories to dream at night........................
Nice sheep Chris!
He's a stone cold killa.
Are you doing a shoulder mount on that nice ram ?

Hey now I know that rifle....Actually Art handled it before me technically. Glad it worked out and congrats on a dandy ram man!!
cwh2-
Well done, man! Congrats!

I'm jealous, as I think my sheep hunting days are over. It ain't the hunting, it's the getting 'em out....
Or maybe if I condition, and go slow.... eating half of it while bring out the other half.....
Congrats you sheep hunters, successful or not. You are into the good stuff there!
Thanks all - been busy with meat and cleanup and all that goes with getting back from a trip.
TZone, he was 35 1/8 on his long side, green. My biggest (and the biggest I'll ever shoot in my life) was a shade over 42 green. That being said, he's plenty big enough for me or I wouldn't have pulled the trigger.
Las, this one was on the wrong side of the ridge from camp, and 1500 feet lower. So it was a slog to get him out.
Luke, nothing to blame on you, it worked like a champ... grin. 18 inch barrel is really nice to carry!
Randy - yeah, I'll be doing a shoulder mount, at least I'm 99% sure.
bigwhoop, the short story is: We went in 3 days before the opener, broke the hike into 2 days so got there mid day on the 8th. Set camp, got water sorted out, and started scouting. Found this guy in a group of 6 rams, and another group of 7 rams that had a good one in it as well. We were 99% on this one, and couldn't get close enough to make the other ram legal. So we dropped in on this one the evening of the 9th, and bivied at the lowest point around to stay out of sight. On opening morning they had fed over to a very bad place (for them), and we were able to make a great stalk with 2 spotters and 2 rifles without being detected by the rams or 10+ ewes and lambs. He was at 350 yards, and eventually fed to 250 going in and out of sight. We were able to get lots of good looks at the horns and be 100% sure, so took the shot. For once, he died on something not rock and not steep, so butchering was a breeze and we just had a ram and a light camp to get back up the hill and then on over to our camp. We looked for another ram for a day, and found lots of almost full curls, but no full curls.
This will be worth the wait.
Hasn’t been yet. Just been a BFF chat so far.
I came here for photos!

Two more friends have killed sheep this year... one just got back with one just over 40". Few would go as far as they did for any sheep...
Congrats Chris! Way to go!
Yep, congrats. What's the rifle?
Congratulations! Very nice sheep, making me jealous down here in IA...
Well done, cwh2.
Looking forward to more pics and stories.

For you guys that haven’t got sheep hunt much, any legal Ram is a good ram, any sheep somewhere around high 37” to mid 38” is a nice ram, sheep 39” and above are great rams, some guys will use 40” as the cutoff and that’s ok too.
Told the outfitter I guided sheep for that I was pizz poor at guessing the tale of the tape in the field. Sheep only come in 3 sizes for me, not legal, legal but meh, and omg can’t wait to get a tape on that bastard. Said it worked for him 🤷🏻♂️
Most sheep are hard earned ime, I got one easy one, once upon a time 😎, I’ll never look down my nose at any legal sheep a guy takes. But man I still enjoy seeing those big bastards!
Speaking of, if Chris has time and inclination, it’d be nice if he’d post pix of that 42” ram on here so guys could get a comparison

If they swapped head gear people would say "sheep" with a very quizzical look...
Goats pee in the water sheep drink.
I always heard it as "you walk by the sheep to get to the goats", but I like yours better.
Sheep are like sex, they're all good, some are just gooder than others.....
That's a great ram, I'd push everyone out of the way to shoot that one.
Not trying to downplay the sheep at all, its a beauty and I am 100% jealous.
Thanks for the story, cwh. You used a very successful technique - especially for opening day. Sore bodies and full packs are the measure of putting a great plan together.

Its all here.
https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/6829400For the recrd, im really excited about this ram, and dont mean to play it off as being "no big deal". It just isn't a huge ram.
Here is a guy I used to know with a 40incher from a few years ago for comparison. Pardon the blood.

He looks like someone I knew once??? But younger and tougher looking???
I cannot see the security blanket in the photo, so it must not be someone I know???

The sheep is pretty gnarly, too.
As a teacher, I don't get the time off that many people do when it comes to sheep hunting and hunting in general. I have a hunt planned for the end of August and beginning of September that will allow me to use all four of my personal days with labor day. I do get to talk to people and help them get started. One of the guys that I work with at SW was very apt student and listened to everything that I told him to do for preparation, tools, technique and etc. I guess I have to live vicariously through him. He did fine. He shot this guy at 30 yards up Shindata on opening morning.
These guys all seem to be thinner and younger than I am......might be a message there!
Tks for posting both pix on same thread Chris, think it really helps guys that don’t get to see many if any sheep a better idea of what we’re talking about. Pic is worth a thousand words, two pix speak volumes.
First sheep I ever took was in the company of a curmudgeonly old guy that had gone 23 rams outa 24 seasons.
Man what a honey hole he’d found, river has changed so no way to get anywhere close to his old honey hole. I wonder how many big rams have died there now due to natural causes.
He personally had only taken half a dozen or so rams over 40” there, not sure how many other rams over 40 his friends had taken there. My first one was only 37 , but a beauty, just didn’t get the drop down to jaw to put it in the over 40 class. 🤷🏻♂️
Congrats again sir, you’ve turned into a sheep hunting machine.
As for goats? Meh, ain’t just the headwear, it’s taste of meat for me, I’ll take a sheep over goat meat anyday. YMMV
Thomas tell your friend congrats on a beautiful ram 👍🏻
This will be worth the wait.

and a damn fine one at that
This is the biggest darned sheep I've ever seen.
Almost wore me down.
God Bless,
Steve
Love seeing big Rams! Not that common anymore! You don,t see the numbers of sheep-like you saw in the 80,s up here. And competition for the big Rams is unreal.
Thomas, that one has everything! Full length with a lamb tip on the left, broomed on the right, what more could you ask for?
I'll see if I can get the whole sheep family in a frame for a portrait... Each picture has its own perspective and you can get caught comparing things from one picture to another that don't really apply.
Could be one of the best looking sheephorns ever....
Oh what a beauty Steve !
Still some big rams taken every year, but as others have noted sheep hunting may have passed its zenith. Whole lot more sheep hunters competing for fewer big rams

Pretty sure sheep hunter # are a lot lower than 15 to 20 years ago...
Neighbor gave me some sausage game meat thanked him, got home and looked at packages labeled Sheep! from this years ram! Chorizo Dall Sheep sausage, wow been a while since I had any Sheep meat. Made a breakfast burrito it was wonderful. Not often a sheep hunter will share some!
Got a text yesterday that he's packing another white caped beast off a mountain today.

Pretty sure you are as wrong as about every other post/declaration you have ever made. About five years ago I was part of a group working with ADFG looking at options and attitudes on AK sheep hunting moving forward.
Sheep numbers are down half and hunter numbers are double from 20 years ago.

Stop trying to be a big shot. I sat at the same table with you. Then you went to Lohuis house for beers.

Great, and you refused to learn anything they had to say?
And there is nothing you have posted showing even the slightest bit of background or native skill of use in said project. And more to the point, you have many statements showing you are an idiot. Congratulations!
From your recent posts I made the mistake of thinking you were trying to get over your stupidity and actually listen. Guess it is time to put you back on ignore for good...

Hahahahahahaha! Sorry Artsy that I’m not a sheep that eats what you put out. You googled sheep hunter numbers to try to prove me wrong and couldn’t swallow the facts. Its ok, unlike you I don’t claim to know it all.
Oh but you’re some big shot who sat at a table for two hours and answered predetermined questions about sheep hunting. I forgot you know it all. Laughing!

Dunno what that is in front, but that’s an old goat right behind it.
Two old goats, or one old goat and one young goat.
The front goat is awesome. The rear goat, not so much!
Tough crowd.
This is the goat my wife shot (same rifle as the sheep, but I didn't get any pictures with the rifle). Its a long story, but I'll try to get it posted eventually. I've gotten paranoid enough in my old age that I don't put pictures of other people on the internet, so you're stuck with pictures of me.
You do look a bit frosty...
But seriously. Congrats to E and nice goat.
Congrats on the purty sheep and goat.
Thanks RedRabbit & IronBender!
count me jealous too. Well done and please pass along congrats to the Mrs.

I spent opening week of 2013 in that area. Stalked a couple of rams in that exact spot, but could not make them legal no matter how hard I squinted. Shindata drainage was filled with lots of young rams that year. Too many of them were almost full curl. Very frustrating week.
