ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) — Update: Sun. 1/12 6 p.m.
Anchorage Police Chief Justin Doll confirmed in a press conference Sunday that two officers discharged their weapons while responding to a call about a man wearing dark clothes, a ski mask, and wielding a reportedly loaded crossbow, which he was pointing at pedestrians and motorists near the corner of Huffman Road and Brandon Street.

Doll said the suspect pointed their weapon at the officers before they discharged their weapons. The suspect then fled across the street to Silver Fox Lane where they were apprehended. He was then sent to a hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Earlier in the day at roughly 9:30 a.m. Dispatch received reports of a person with a similar description near Spenard Road and 36th Avenue, but officers were unable to locate them.

The two officers involved have been placed on administrative leave. According to APD protocol, their names will be released in 72 hours. Both a criminal and internal investiagtion have begun involving the incident.

"The internal investigation is just to make sure that all department policies and procedures were followed," Chief Doll said. "And it also is something that we use to look at the actions that the officers took and determine are there things that we need to do differently in the future."

No officers or other civilians were injured. Anyone with additional information regarding the incident is asked to call the non-emergency Dispatch at 311.

APD says it will brief members of the media at a press conference this afternoon.
Don't bring a crossbow to a gun fight?
Suspect crossed over the line.

True, and may not have hepped this feller anyway.
Hey Sitka deer, I may have asked you this before. Did you know any Smiths that lived in Anchorage back in the 70s and through the90s? The dad was in the liquor store business. Just wondering, they are friends of ours from the old neighborhood and we’re still close after all these years.

No Smiths in my memory, but a few other names in the industry from the era for certain.
👍

This crossbow story reminds me one I heard a few years ago. A friend of mine’s crackhead cousin tried to rob a store using a longbow that he could barely pull back. Got caught and did time for it! 🤣

But they could not charge him with carrying concealed!

Those that don’t know history are doomed to repeat it.

Year's ago Silver Fox Lane was called Jackass Lane.

This writer clearly has a flawed understanding of pronouns.
Did they?

That gets really distracting.

Pronoun fluidity should be a benefit for reporters these days...
Woops,

Lucy Moua was working in a laundromat in the Huffman Square Shopping Center when she heard a “pop” just before a bullet pierced the shop’s front window.

“All I heard was just two gunshots and then there was glass flying everywhere, even in front of my face,”
