Looks like the winter was really ugly and a tiny fraction survived on the north end of the island.
Mucho tougher winter than recently. Not surprising it was a winter Kodiak has not had in a few years.
I am pissed at myself for not getting over there this past fall...
Reports of lots of cougars though!

We are talking deer, not Anchorage nurses!
Heard about deer population on South end?
Usually they fare far better... significant differences in temps and snow depths every year. Lots more ocean closer, so quite a bit warmer on average...
Yes, I'm aware. Which is why I asked the question. grin
I will make sure and ask every nonresident hunter I find returning from his spring hunt...

Do they still cruise the beaches in herds?
Only through a green glass lens...
Looks like the gov just opened up the towns on the road system or the ferry system to outsiders...
A lot of deer died on Kodiak. Whenever we took a ride we would see at least 4 or 5 dead deer. I am going deer hunting but some people are saying that they are going to give the deer a break this year. I have seen some deer that are still alive so they aren't all gone.
