Riley just did a bunch of landscaping...

Yesterday afternoon they hydroseeded the yard.

A moose checked it out carefully this morning...
Moose seem to love new hydroseed
That new? Sprouted I can understand.

My supervisor some years ago spent several weeks (at his wife's "request") building a (coy?) pond in their front yard, and stocked it with a half dozen expensive funny-fish. Lasted one day before he found a moose using this "just right sized" cooling pond.

Fish, like Roy, ded.

googled it. Koi fish.
At our place on POW it was almost a guarantee that there would be deer anywhere that had been hydroseeded. The deer LOVED the green freshly seeded areas. I don’t know what salts or chemicals that they’re attracted to but whatever it is the deer loved it.
Wow, I never heard of residential hydroseeding.
It must be hellish expensive.

But then I live here in poor Hicksville.

I don't know anybody the did residential turf either.

.

It’s not too expensive actually. Now doing dirt work to get the yard in many areas ready for hydro seeding, that’s a different story. Evidently our neighborhood at one time was a rock quarry. We did our own work to establish a lawn. While it’s not the nicest in the yard, I didn’t spend $7K-$15K like most of my neighbors did.

The hydroseeding I’m referring to is done by the state DOT for erosion control and rain water runoff control.

His neighbor was getting a full backyard done... he asked them what they would charge to swing by and squirt an accessible little patch at their convenience. He would have saved less than 50% by doing it himself... seems reasonable.

Neighbor's backyard has a high fence and no moose tracks.

Moose tracks can be filled, and once the turf is established, support the weight - no or minor tracks.

My backyard lawn was partially "loon crap - consistancy of" - when wet, at first. I had 8 inch deep moose divots when wet.

Now, 25 years later, between the sod and the tree roots, no divots when a moose walks across it

That's what I'm familiar with.
When you need to seed many acres of inaccessible land.
Amazing how fast and well it does.

When I inquired, I was told the machinery cost made small
jobs almost impossible. But, maybe tha not universal.
Perhaps it's location as well. Tbere are several lands aka businesses here that advertise residential hydro.

It is not cheap, but if the operator can splash a few more square feet in fifteen minutes they will cut a very good deal.
